Mary Immaculate College (MIC) will host a special symposium to mark the 175th anniversary of the historic Synod of Thurles, one of the most significant events in the shaping of modern Irish Catholicism. Organised by the MIC Department of History and the Irish Institute for Catholic Studies, in association with the MIC Thurles School of Education, the event will take place on Thursday, 4 December at St Patrick’s Campus, MIC Thurles.

Mary Immaculate College (MIC) Thurles continues to make a positive impact in the local community through its Mathematics Homework Club—an initiative connecting first-year undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Arts in Education programme with secondary school pupils seeking extra maths support.

The Mary Immaculate College (MIC) Thurles Summer School will return from 11-13 June this year with a very special focus, Celebrating 20 years of the Ombudsman for Children’s Office. The theme of this year’s event is how children’s voices have changed the landscape of education and participation over the past two decades.

Supporting diverse children and youth in education in a collaborative way will be the focus of a two-day conference at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) on 14 & 15 June. Organised by MIC in collaboration with the MidWest Migrant Community Network (MMCN), the event will draw together educators, researchers, academics and multi-agency practitioners from Ireland alongside international educators who are interested in exploring how interagency collaboration can contribute to better support for diverse learners and their families in schools.

Buildings on the campuses of Mary Immaculate College have turned orange as part of the campaign, 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, from 25 November to 10 December. MIC is coming together with 16 other Higher Education Institutions in Ireland as part of a National Sexual Violence and Harassment Managers Practitioner’s Network for the campaign.

Students from across the MidWest have been inspired to develop creative, innovative and entrepreneurial skills for life as part of this year’s EMPOWER programme. The free programme, designed and developed by Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), saw TY & 5th year students tasked with finding innovative solutions to some of the mobility challenges facing society. Now in its sixth year, the EMPOWER programme partnered with Jaguar Land Rover to give students a real hands-on approach to the tasks they faced.

Mary Immaculate College (MIC) has joined forces with Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) to pioneer a new era of simulation learning in the area of Applied Social Science and Contemporary and Applied Theatre.
