Dr Patrick Buckland, Assistant Professor in Business at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Thurles and Co-Director of the Irish Centre for AI Research in Education (ICAIRE), has joined the Department of Education and Youth’s AI in Schools External Advisory Taskforce.

Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and Tipperary Camogie are delighted to announce a five-year partnership which will see the county side use MIC’s Thurles campus as their full-time training ground. The exciting collaboration will see the Premier’s Senior, Junior, Minor and U16A Championship teams training weekly at the Thurles campus, bringing to an end the practice of moving the location of training sessions to suit availability of facilities.

MIC (Mary Immaculate College) Thurles has once again been awarded a Green Flag in recognition of the efforts of staff and students who have successfully reduced waste throughout the Thurles campus, increased recycling, and raised awareness of environmental and sustainability issues amongst the student and staff population. The Green Flag is an internationally recognised award presented by An Taisce’s Green-Schools programme in partnership with the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), representing a commitment to sustainability, environmental awareness, and climate action. Schools and colleges earn the Green Flag by implementing eco-friendly initiatives, reducing waste, conserving energy, and promoting biodiversity.

MIC Thurles is situated right at the heart of Thurles Town and its heritage. Though it still has its original 19th century buildings, it also has a range of high-quality facilities to support the equally high standard of teaching and learning at the facility.

Joy and pride swept through Thurles on Friday, 31 October, as 127 Mary Immaculate College (MIC) Thurles graduates, joined by family, friends and lecturers, gathered for the inaugural MIC Thurles conferring ceremony – the first to be held in the town since MIC’s incorporation of St Patrick’s College in 2016. In previous years, MIC Thurles graduates celebrated alongside their Limerick peers in joint ceremonies on the Limerick campus. This year, however, the spotlight turned exclusively to Thurles, as the Cathedral of the Assumption became the proud setting for a day filled with celebration.

The MIC Thurles Open Day on Saturday, 12 of November (10am -2pm), is an event not to be missed by aspiring post-primary school teachers. The event will introduce prospective applicants to the campuses existing subject combinations in Business Studies, Accounting, Religious Studies, Gaeilge, Mathematics and the newest addition to the MIC Thurles’ provision – Home Economics.

Mary Immaculate College and the Mathematical Resilience Network (MRN) Ireland branch will host a free one-day mathematics anxiety workshop for second level teachers and support staff on Saturday 9 March. The workshop is primarily aimed at teachers of mathematics and subjects involving mathematics such as science, engineering and technology, as well as support staff and teachers who encounter maths and stats anxiety in other fields.
