Dr Susan Liddy, Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and President of Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI), has been named Limerick Person of the Month for April.

A prominent figure in the screen industry, Dr Liddy holds leadership roles both nationally and internationally, including Chair of Women in Film and Television Ireland (WFT Ireland). Earlier this year, she led the organisation of a major international summit in Adare, attracting delegates, broadcasters, award-winning actors and producers from around the world.

Closer to home, she continues to shape Limerick’s cultural landscape as founder and director of the Catalyst International Film Festival, now in its seventh year and running from 23-25 April. The festival is unique in Ireland for its dedicated focus on gender equality, diversity and inclusion in film.

Speaking following the announcement, Dr Liddy said:

“I was surprised and delighted to receive this acknowledgement of my contribution to Limerick. It relates to the WIFTI international summit I brought to the region in February, as well as my ongoing involvement in the Catalyst International Film Festival as founder and director. It is very satisfying when this work is recognised, and I accept the award with gratitude.”

Dr Rosemary Day, Head of the Department of Media and Communication Studies at MIC, said:

“Susan has been a champion for women in film and television in Ireland and globally for many years. She has consistently placed Limerick at the centre of her work, most recently by bringing the Women in Film and Television world summit to Adare and by founding the Catalyst Film Festival. A proud Limerick woman, Susan continues to make a significant contribution to the cultural life of the city, always with a focus on inclusion and representation.”
