About

The Department of Arts Education and Physical Education at Mary Immaculate College includes four specialist teams in the areas of Drama Education, Music Education, Visual Art Education and Physical Education.

The Department of Arts Education and Physical Education team bring their wealth of experience, commitment, passion and expertise as artists, practitioners and teacher educators to the promotion of high quality, research-informed, inclusive, hands-on and practical, innovative and creative learning experiences to positively influence and enrich the lives of future teachers, the children they teach and the wider community. The AEPE mission compliments the overall mission of MIC in promoting excellence in its teaching, learning and research activities.

Undergraduate

Staff of the department lecture in Drama Education, Music Education, Physical Education and Visual Art Education on the Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Education & Psychology and Bachelor of Education (International) programmes. Staff also contribute to the BA in Early Childhood Care & Education.

Members of the AEPE Department deliver a number of modules on the Professional Masters in Education programme.

The Department of Arts Education and Physical Education delivers two taught postgraduate programmes:

Research Postgraduate Programmes (MA and PhD)

The Department of AEPE welcomes applications for research MA and PhD degrees and staff within the department are also available to supervise research degrees. Departmental assistantships are available to support students who wish to pursue graduate studies. Please contact the Head of Department for further information.

Students will normally only be accepted for research in areas in which the Department has a particular specialisation (see Research Interests on Staff Profiles for details).

Students undertaking the general Master of Education (M Ed) or Structured PhD programmes can complete their dissertation on a topic and under the supervision of academic staff with the Department of AEPE.

AEPE Department Assistantship scheme 2024-25

Call for Applications

Applications are invited for the AEPE Department Assistantship 2024-25. All information is available on the RGSO Scholarships, Funding & Fees page here.

Applicants should work with an identified supervisor to progress an application including:

  1. Details of the proposed research (1000 word limit)
  2. Research CV (3 pages max)
