Mary Immaculate College (MIC), through the PATH 1 Project and Faculty of Education, in collaboration with EPIC (Empowering People in Care), hosted an event aimed at fostering greater understanding and inclusion for children and young people in the care system within the Irish education system.
‘Take Care: Empowering Schools to Support Children in Care’ took place on 7 April at MIC Limerick. This hybrid discussion event (in person and online) also saw a regional launch of a new toolkit created to support schools in understanding and addressing the unique needs of children in care.
Mary Immaculate College (MIC) recently hosted twelve Ugandan teachers as part of Teachers Making a Difference programme. The programme, sponsored by the Irish Embassy in Uganda, acknowledges and affirms excellence in teaching and recognises the exceptional creativity and innovation of teachers working in challenging environments. The teachers were invited to Ireland for a study visit to MIC by the College’s Dean of Education, Professor Emer Ring while speaking at the Ugandan National Primary Teachers Conference in September 2019, with the visit delayed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
On Friday 29 April, Mary Immaculate College (MIC) will host the MIC Limerick Open Day. This unique hybrid event will combine information stands and student-led on-campus tours with virtual programme talks that can be viewed online at a time that suits prospective students. The on-campus portion of the event will take place between 9.30am-12.30pm and will be the first student recruitment event held on the campus since January 2020.
MIC’s innovative and customisable Master of Education is now offered with a range of new specialisms
Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is delighted to announce the launch of a diverse range of new specialisms on its popular Master of Education (M Ed), making it one of the most distinctive programmes of its kind in the country. The existing modular design enables students to register for specific core M Ed modules and select others from an exciting range of eleven new specialisms in areas as varied as STEM Education and Education and the Law, thus accumulating credits in a flexible way. The customised nature of the programme, which is offered on a full-time (one-year) or part-time (two-years), allows for flexible, agile and individualised learning pathways.
According to Dr Emma O’Brien, Director of Taught Postgraduate Studies in Education at MIC: “The Level 9 modular M Ed with Specialisms is designed for all those interested in enhancing their professional knowledge, understanding and skills in education. With the addition of the new specialisms, students have even more flexibility to build their own customised M Ed by choosing from the available modules that best suit their own professional needs, research areas, personal interests and mode of learning.”
Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) have today (Friday) launched an entrance scholarship in memory of Ashling Murphy. The Ashling Murphy Scholarship was launched at the INTO Education Conference at the Tullamore Court Hotel. The Ashling Murphy Scholarship is jointly award by MIC and the INTO to the amount of €4,000, which will be a bursary awarded to a first year Bachelor of Education student for their exceptional achievement and talent in the field of traditional Irish music.
Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is once again inviting applications for its 2025 University of Sanctuary Scholarship Programme. This initiative, coordinated by MIC’s Office of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Interculturalism (EDII), is designed to promote greater access to higher education for International Protection Applicants, refugees, and migrant groups.
The Scholarship provides each successful applicant with an annual stipend of €3,000 and a full fee waiver. These supports are renewable each year for the full duration of the programme. In total, four Scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate applicants, and two Scholarships will be awarded to postgraduate applicants for the upcoming academic year.

The Mary immaculate College (MIC) Senior Ladies’ Gaelic Football team has brought the Giles Cup back to the College as 2025 champions, following a decisive win against University College Dublin (UCD).
The AIG Giles Cup final took place 15 March 2025, with MIC Limerick defeating UCD with a score of 3-9 to 1-8. It was MIC’s fourth time to claim the title since 2010, having won in 2012, 2014, 2022 and now 2025. MIC player Lydia McDonagh, who scored two goals, was named Player of the Match.
