Discover Your Future in Post-Primary Teaching at the MIC Thurles Open Day

Join us at the MIC Thurles Open Day on Saturday, 8 November (10am–1pm) and take the first step toward a rewarding future in education. Connect with aspiring post-primary teachers from across Ireland, explore what college life is really like, and discover how you can lead, teach, and inspire the next generation.

Highlights of this specially curated day include a welcome address from Professor Jennifer Johnston, Vice Dean of the School of Education (Post-Primary), guided campus tours offering a glimpse into student life, and programme talks covering subject combinations in Business Studies, Accounting, Theology and Religious Studies, Gaeilge, Mathematics, and Home Economics.

According to Professor Johnston; “The School of Education (Post-Primary) at MIC Thurles offers seven Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Education programmes in concurrent teacher education programmes. This means that at the end of the four years you will exit the programme with a Bachelors honours degree along with a teaching qualification that is recognised and accredited by the Teaching Council. Students experience quality teaching, learning and assessment, with a focus on your personal, professional and subject knowledge development throughout the four years. We have a vibrant student population and offer a range of clubs.”

MIC Thurles’ concurrent teacher education programmes are structured so that the education component is included in each year, and the graduate is qualified to teach to honours Leaving Certificate level after completion of their degree. There is no requirement to complete a post graduate Masters in Education. This not only means graduates are qualified in four years, as opposed to six, but there is also the attendant cost savings. Considerable cost benefits are also enjoyed by those who choose to study in Thurles in terms of relative cost of living.

For incoming first-year students, MIC Thurles provides 36 modern en-suite rooms of dedicated student accommodation—designed to help you settle in, make friends, and feel right at home from day one.

Chloe Barrett, 3rd year Business and Religious Studies student;Deciding to join MIC Thurles has been one of the best decisions I have made. The smaller numbers create an amazing environment that gave me the opportunity not to only grow professionally but also personally. Thurles has become my home away from home, and I have made connections here that will last a lifetime. The degree being only four years with no need for a masters was a huge factor for me in my decision. It means that I can reach my career goal sooner in a supportive environment. It was the open day that really sold it for me, so if you are considering joining us come to the open day and feel the atmosphere in action.”
