An event celebrating the power of music and performance as cultural resistance—with a specific focus on the parallels between Ireland and Algeria—will take place at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) on Friday 30 May. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend the Performing Resistance Cultures Festival: Algeria Ireland, which will be a day of panel discussions, film screenings and performances. It will also feature a special tribute to late MIC lecturer, Dr Tony Langlois.
Fr Peter McVerry was awarded the McAuley Medal in 2022, presented by President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, in recognition of his social justice activism. Peter has worked in Dublin’s north inner city since 1974, where he came into contact with young people who were sleeping on the streets because of their home situation. In 1979 he opened a hostel for homeless boys aged 12-16, this subsequently became his life-time work.
Prominent Irish homelessness activist, Fr Peter McVerry was awarded the McAuley Medal by Mary Immaculate College (MIC) on Tuesday 6 December in recognition of his social justice activism and outstanding contribution to society. The medal, which is the highest honour that MIC can bestow on an individual, was presented by the President of Ireland, President Michael D. Higgins on behalf of the College.

The Department also contributes to the MA in Climate, Justice and Sustainability and the Pre University Programme. It also oversees the philosophy modules in short-term international programmes in collaboration with the International Office.

Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is proud to present Picture This! Imagine That! – The Voyages of St Brendan—a unique art exhibition running from May 14-16—at MIC Limerick.
