Manchester United may have beaten Manchester City to the FA Cup at the weekend but all eyes were on Mary Immaculate College on Thursday 23 May where a riveting local school derby was playing out. Held for the thirteenth time this year, the League of Legends soccer blitz saw over 160 Fifth and Sixth Class students from 13 local primary schools tog out for a highly competitive day of soccer. The competition is a joint venture between the Transforming Education through Dialogue (TED) Project)—an MIC initiative that works directly with primary and post-primary schools—and the PLUS schools network comprising representatives from fourteen local DEIS schools.
Limerick Science Festival returns this year as part of Science Week 2025, supported by Research Ireland, running from November 9-16. Now celebrating 30 years of Science Week, this year's theme 'Then. Today. Tomorrow.' invites us to look at how science shapes our past, present and future.
Over 2,300 students from across the MidWest participated in Limerick Science Week, co-hosted by MIC, UL and TUS. This year's festival celebrated 'Being Human' and presented a range of activities and experiences to celebrate the role of science and STEM in the lives of people in the Mid-West region. MIC's Department of STEM Education was awarded €12,000 in funding by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to support their role in the Festival.
The Leadership for Inclusion in the Early Years (LINC) Programme successfully hosted its first International LINC Conference at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, on Saturday, 27 September 2025. Themed “Making Inclusion a Reality for All Children: Merging Theory and Practice to Create Spaces Where All Children Belong,” the one-day event brought together early years providers, inclusion coordinators (INCO’s), educators, teachers and principals, policymakers, academics, researchers, and parents to exchange ideas and celebrate inclusive practice.
At the launch of the Final Evaluation of Phase One of the Leadership for Inclusion in the Early Years (LINC) Programme (2016-2020), the LINC Consortium welcomed the reaffirmation of the programme’s profound impact and its crucial role in equipping Inclusion Coordinators (INCOs) with the knowledge and skills necessary to create inclusive environments where all children can thrive.
Liverpool University Press, in celebration of their 125th anniversary, have very kindly offered a bursary of £300 to an Early Career Researcher attending the ACIS at Mary Immaculate College from 17-22 June 2024.
Offered jointly by faculty from the Department of History in MIC and the Department of History at the UL, this two-year, part-time Master's programme meets the needs of graduates in history, or in related disciplines (e.g. Irish studies, human geography, archaeology or anthropology).
