Science Week 2025

Limerick Science Festival returns this year as part of Science Week 2025, supported by Research Ireland, running from November 9-16. Now celebrating 30 years of Science Week, this year's theme 'Then. Today. Tomorrow.' invites us to look at how science shapes our past, present and future.

Below is a list of public events taking place across Limerick for all ages to enjoy, from family-friendly experiments to guided tours, walks and hands-on adventures in discovery.

Ardnacrusha Tour (adults only)

Take a guided tour of the ESB Power Station. 

For adults 18+ only. Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to collect your PPE and get ready for the experience.

Nutty Scientist

Join our Nutty Scientists on for an exciting launch of Science Week 2025—bursting with hands-on fun and mind-blowing dry ice demonstrations all day long! Bring the family, spark curiosity, and dive into the magic of science—this is one event you won’t want to miss!

Location: Crescent Shopping Centre

Animal Magic

This interactive presentation and hands-on experience involving animals allows the public of all ages to learn about these wonderful animals and the importance of habitat protection.

Location: Newcastle West Library

Chemistry of the Celts

Step back into the Iron Age and explore the fascinating world of the Irish Celts and Chemistry with Scientific Sue!

Biodiversity Trail (for all ages)

Albert Nolan will lead this fun and educational experience in nature to explore the diverse ecosystems and learn about the importance of biodiversity in our environment.

Location: People’s Park, Limerick City (Pery Square entrance)

Power Tower Bikes (at MIC Limerick)

Each person must pedal on a stationary bike to generate the equivalent amount of energy that it would take to heat a pre-determined amount of water. The challengers go head-to-head to see who can reach boiling point in the quickest time. The results of each race are recorded, and challengers compete for a Top 10 spot on our Magnetic Leader board.

Park Life 

This session introduces participants to the safe and effective use of outdoor park exercise equipment. It focuses on building confidence, learning proper techniques, and understanding how to create simple, balanced workouts using available equipment. The aim is to encourage fun, accessible fitness in a community setting while promoting healthy, active lifestyles for all ages.

Come and Try Padel 

This fun, introductory session invites participants to give padel a go and learn the basics of the game in a friendly, relaxed setting. With guidance from experienced coaches, players will discover essential skills, simple rules, and gameplay techniques. It’s a great way to get active, meet new people, and experience one of the world’s fastest-growing sports

Active Cities Walk  

Location: The Pavilion, University of Limerick North Campus, Limerick

Weekly Walk Kilmallock 

Location: Kilmallock Library Carpark, Killmallock, Co. Limerick

Men’s Intro to Science of Golf

The driving range has the trackman screens which will be hooked up for each bay and the coach will show/ advise on Trackman Range and the science behind how it works.

Yoga Lattes     

Yoga lattes is a gentle and welcoming session designed to help improve flexibility, balance, and core strength through a blend of mindful yoga movements and breathwork. Ideal for those with mobility or flexibility concerns, this low-impact class supports joint health, reduces stiffness, and encourages functional strength in a calming environment. Participants are invited to slow down and reconnect with their bodies and mind followed by a relaxed social coffee afterwards building social connections and community spirit.
