Welcome
Welcome to Mary Immaculate College! You have already accomplished a great deal in getting into this College and we hope that you are very pleased with your choice. MIC has a reputation for excellence in teaching, learning and research, as well as plenty of opportunities to get involved in sporting, cultural and social activities. You have so much to look forward to over the next few years.
‘Welcome to Campus’ visits for first year PME students will take place in the TARA Forum, MIC Limerick on Friday 2 September 2022 from 11am to 1.30pm.
The schedule for the session is as follows:
- Meet MISU Tour Guide and allocated group or pod at the entrance to the TARA building at assigned time.
- Each MISU tour guide will remain with a pod (approx. 15) for the duration of their campus visit.
- Welcome address by Dean of Faculty or Course Leader and finish with talk by MISU, information on how to register for clubs and societies (30-35 minutes) in TARA Forum.
- Go on a Campus Tour which will stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access their email.
Total time on campus: 2 hours approx.
MIC Limerick Campus
Orientation will commence Monday 19 September 2022, with the ‘Welcome to Campus’ visits. Over the course of the week, MIC Limerick and Thurles will welcome groups of new entrants (max of 110 students attending each session); these groups will be further subdivided into 'pods' of approximately 15.
Please see below for specific dates of orientation for MIC Limerick programmes. You will be assigned a time for your ‘Welcome’ visit on enrolment. These details will be sent to you just before Orientation starts.
Please Note: You will be assigned a group and time once the enrolment process commences. You cannot be assigned a time slot in advance of the enrolment process commencing.
Bachelor of Education – Primary Teaching (MI005/MI006): Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 September
Cohort will be divided into four groups at the following times:
- Group 1: Monday 19 September - 9.30am - 11.30am
- Group 2: Monday 19 September - 11.30am - 1.30pm
- Group 3: Monday 19 September - 1.30pm - 3.30pm
- Group 4: Tuesday 20 September - 9.30am - 11.30am
B Ed in Education and Psychology (MI008): Tuesday 20 September 11.30am - 1.30pm
Bachelor of Arts (MI002): Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22 September
Wednesday 21 - Cohort will be divided into three groups on at the following times:
- Group 1: Wednesday 21 September - 9.30am - 11.30am
- Group 2: Wednesday 21 September - 11.30am - 1.30pm
- Group 3: Wednesday 21 September - 1.30pm - 3.30pm
and
Thursday 22 September 9.30am – 3pm – all groups - This session will consist of:
- 9.30am to 11.30am (approx) Arts Subject Overview in room T118 (see here for the schedule - Please note the order of subject talks may be subject to minor changes)
- 11.30am to 1.30pm An tSlí– BA subject information stands -opportunity to meet and talk with individual lecturers in each subject area
- 1.30am to 3pm Social Event in An Hálla
BA in Contemporary and Applied Theatre Studies (MI001):
Wednesday 21 September 3.30pm – 5pm
and
Thursday 22nd September 13.30pm – 3pm for a Social Event in An Hálla
Bachelor of Science in Psychology (MI003):
Wednesday 21 September 3.30pm – 5pm
and
Thursday 22 September 11.30am – 3pm - this session will consist of:
- 11.30am to 12.30pm - Room T3.02 (Third floor, Tara Building) - B Sc in Psychology Key session: Coordinating Shared Modules
- 13.30am to 3pm - Social Event in An Hálla
Bachelor of Education - International (MI004): Friday 23 September 9.30am – 11.30am
BA in Early Childhood Care & Education (MI007): Friday 23 September 11.30am – 1.30pm
The schedule for these visits for the MIC Limerick campus is as follows:
- Meet MISU Tour Guide and allocated group or pod at the entrance to the TARA building at assigned time.
- Each MISU tour guide will remain with a pod for the duration of their campus visit.
- Welcome address by Dean of Faculty or Course Leader and finish with talk by MISU, information on how to register for clubs and societies (30-35 minutes) in TARA Forum.
- Go on a Campus Tour which will stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access their email. In addition, BA (Liberal Arts) students will register for a compulsory module, Skills for Study and Work 1. BA (Liberal Arts) students will also participate in subject 'Taster Talks' and have an opportunity to meet with staff individually.
Total time on campus: 2 hours approx.

MIC Thurles Campus
Orientation for incoming first years will take place during the week commencing 19 September 2022, on evenings 5-8pm. The aim is to familiarise students with the campus and to provide opportunities for them to meet their peers.
Each session will commence with a welcome address by Head of School. Students will also meet with key academic staff and MISU. Each group will go on a Campus Tour which will stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access their email. New entrants will also visit the Library where there will be a short briefing by the Librarian.

Please note: You must attend registration on the day assigned to your programme.
