Welcome

Welcome to Mary Immaculate College! You have already accomplished a great deal in getting into this College and we hope that you are very pleased with your choice. MIC has a reputation for excellence in teaching, learning and research, as well as plenty of opportunities to get involved in sporting, cultural and social activities. You have so much to look forward to over the next few years.

‘Welcome to Campus’ visits for first year PME students will take place in the TARA building (Room T.116), MIC Limerick on Friday 8 September, from 11am to 1pm.

The schedule for the session is as follows: 

  • Welcome address by Professor Eugene Wall, President of Mary Immaculate College, Professor Niamh Hourigan, VPAA and the Dean of Faculty or Course Leader, and finish with a talk from MISU (Students Union), information on how to register for clubs and societies (30-35 minutes) in T.116. 
  • Students leave in their assigned groups of 20 to 22 for full campus tour with MISU Tour Guides to receive Student ID cards and also stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access their email.

Total time on campus: 2 hours approx.

MIC Limerick Campus:Orientation will commence on Tuesday 12 September in the Lime Tree Theatre with welcome and information talks from the President, Vice-President Academic Affairs and both Deans.

On Wednesday 13 September Bachelor of Arts, BSc. Psychology, BA in Early Childhood Care & Education and B Ed in Education and Psychology students will receive talks on Student Services, MISU (Students Union) Tours of the Campus and receive their ID cards and access to the computer system.

On Thursday 14 September Bachelor of Education Students, including Bachelor of Education International, will receive talks on Student Services, MISU (Students Union) Tours of the Campus and receive their ID cards and access to the computer system.

Welcome and Information talks from:

9.30am - 10.30am for the following groups:

  • B Ed in Education and Psychology (MI008)
  • Bachelor of Arts (MI002)
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology (MI003)
  • BA in Early Childhood Care & Education (MI007)

  • Bachelor of Arts (MI002): 9.30am - 3.30pm
  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology (MI003): 9.30am - 1.30pm

  • B Ed in Education and Psychology (MI008): 12pm - 3pm

Thursday 14 September

Bachelor of Education – Primary Teaching (MI005/MI006) & Bachelor of Education - International (MI004)

Cohort will be divided into two groups at the following times: 

  • Group 1: 9.30am – 11.30am
  • Group 2: 12.30pm – 3.30pm

MIC Thurles Campus: Orientation for incoming first years will take place on Monday 11 September and Tuesday 12 September. The aim is to familiarise students with the campus and to provide opportunities for them to meet their peers.

Each session will commence with a welcome address by Head of School. Students will also meet with key academic staff and MISU (Students Union). Each group will go on a Campus Tour which will stop in the Computer Labs to ensure all students can access their email. New entrants will also visit the Library where there will be a short briefing by the Librarian.

Each Orientation Day is tailored for specific programme cohorts. The Orientation sessions will run from 2pm to 5.30pm on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 September.

Monday 11 September, 2pm - 5.30pm (Room G05)

  • MI009 - BA in Education Business Studies & Accounting
  • MI010 – BA in Education, Business Studies and Religious Studies
  • MI015 - BA in Education, Home Economics and Business Studies (2pm - 6pm to include uniform fitting)

Tuesday 12 September, 2pm - 5.30pm (Room G05)

  • MI011 - BA in Education, Gaeilge and Religious Studies
  • MI012 – BA in Education, Gaeilge and Business Studies
  • MI013 - BA in Education, Mathematics and Gaeilge
  • MI014 – BA in Education, Mathematics and Business Studies

You will be assigned a group and time once the enrolment process commences. You cannot be assigned a time slot in advance of the enrolment process commencing.

Please note: You must attend registration on the day assigned to your programme.

If you are enrolling in MIC Thurles you do not need to attend the Orientation in MIC Limerick. The Orientation in MIC Thurles will provide you with all the information that you need.

Need to know where the bus stop is, where to get your weekly shop, where you can go to socialise with your friends? – meet your student offices who will take you on a tour of the local area.
