Global Village is a Global Citizenship Education programme for primary schools in Ireland. In this episode I talk to Giulia Filippi about her PhD research which compares how global citizenship education is enacted within initial teacher education programmes in Ireland versus Italy. Giulia is a PhD candidate at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano in Italy and a visiting researcher at Maynooth University in Ireland. In this episode I talk with recent MIC BEd graduates Orlaith O’Brien and Róisín Kelly who are now working as primary school teachers. Róisín and Orlaith both completed a specialism in global citizenship education during their degrees and share their experiences of learning about and teaching GCE themselves. Ombudsman for Children, Dr Niall Muldoon, will deliver a keynote address on 2 November at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) - alongside Prof. Emer Ring, Dean of Early Childhood and Primary Education at MIC - as part of an event to recognise two decades of the degree, which focuses on the care and education of children aged from birth to six years. Graduates of the programme are invited to attend this special event.

A Mary Immaculate College (MIC) academic is among the inaugural membership of the newly founded Young Academy of Ireland (YAI). Dr Deirdre Flynn, lecturer in 21st-century literature at MIC, is among forty academics from across the island of Ireland to be inducted into the YAI and will serve a four-year term.
Over 500 students from 17 primary schools from the Mid-West region took part in the regional final of the Dell VEX Robotics Competition recently. Hosted by Dell Technologies in conjunction with Mary Immaculate College (MIC), the regional final saw students take part in a game-based engineering challenge to design, code and build robots.
Three new publications from academics within the MIC's Department of English Language & Literature have been celebrated at a special event. Dr Kathryn Laing, Dr Ian Hickey and Dr Deirdre Flynn have published books in their respective research fields over the past academic year.
