The MIC Undergraduate University of Sanctuary Scholarship Programme Awards are awarded by the MIC Office of Equality, Diversity Inclusion and Interculturalism (EDII). Understanding and supporting diversity and inclusion in schools will be the focus of a free public conference held at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) on Saturday 14 October. Organised by the Diversity and Intercultural Education Network, the conference will bring together the Ombudsman for Children, Dr Niall Muldoon, educators and those engaged in education and youth services for a day of brainstorming and idea-sharing on how to best support inclusion in schools.

This year’s Comhdháil na Bealtaine, hosted by Roinn na Gaeilge at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), took place on 23 May in the College and concentrated on the theme ‘Historical Novel’. The long-running conference, a cornerstone of Léann na Gaeilge, once again brought together scholars and writers for a day of rich academic exchange. As in previous years, proceedings from the event will be published. This year’s programme featured seven invited speakers offering diverse critical perspectives on key works of historical fiction in Irish, with five of the talks dedicated to individual texts.

In this case study, Dr Laura McEntee outlines how she used generative artificial intelligence (AI) to support creativity in arts education and to see how these new emerging technologies can co-exist within the arts. Focusing on the strands of creating, performing and presenting and responding and connecting from the redeveloped arts curriculum 2024, the approach aimed to support students to create and perform puppet shows, using AI to help.

I sought to design an assessment that would help students to apply social psychological theory and research to contemporary social issues. To facilitate this, I asked students to work in groups of five to produce short videos intended for a general audience. The videos were to outline 'one small way' that viewers could change their behaviour to address the climate crisis, based on the social psychology of behaviour change. To encourage reflective engagement and consolidate the students’ learning, I also asked them to take part in a peer feedback exercise.
