Strategic Plan (2017-2023)

Professor Wall presented a new strategic plan to the College’s Governing Authority entitled "A Flourishing Learning Community".
Setting out the ambitions of the College for the period 2017-2023, the new plan stated that:
“The current objective is to complete the project by 2022, following the securing of a sustainable funding package. This work is underway and there is confidence that the objective will be met, providing 500 spaces for readers – in addition to the furnishing of extra teaching rooms and the establishing of state-of-the-art, flexible, learning spaces for innovative, creative and collaborative approaches that further empower students as co-drivers of their own educational experiences.”
An all-out effort to progress the project on multiple fronts, including design and advocacy of the case for State funding, followed, with the President and his capital development team, together with the student cohort, Alumni, and external partners, all galvanised in determined pursuit of the goal. A number of attempts to bring the various elements required to spark the project into life resulted in disappointment. However, success eventually arrived in May 2023 with direct engagement between Professor Wall and Minister for Further & Higher Education, Research & Innovation, Simon Harris, T.D., and a commitment by the State to provide €30.8 million under Project 2040 towards the cost of construction, subject to an undertaking by the College to provide the balance of costs from its own resources.
