Rory McGann is an Associate Professor in Education (Professional Placement) and current Convenor for IFUT-MIC Branch Committee. He holds a range of qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including a B.Ed., M.Ed., Graduate Diplomas in Special Educational Needs and Educational Leadership, and an Advanced Diploma in Law and Education, all of which underpin a holistic perspective on the evolving challenges facing education. His career encompasses significant contributions to educational policy development, legislative reform, and regulatory advancement across a range of educational contexts. His current work examines the interaction of perception, product, and press in nurturing creativity within initial teacher education. His work makes a valuable contribution to contemporary discourse on creativity in education and informs both national and international projects with which he is actively engaged. Through his teaching and advocacy, Rory is deeply committed to supporting the professional development of educators.In addition to his academic work, Rory is a passionate advocate for academic staff in higher education. He is currently a member of An tÚdarás Rialaithe (The Governing Authority) of Mary Immaculate College. He also serves as national Vice President of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT), and is a member of both the National Executive and Council of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT). In these leadership roles, he represents the professional interests of academic colleagues across a range of collective and individual matters, advancing the cause of academic freedom, pressing for greater recognition of the academic and teaching profession, and championing sustained investment in higher education as a public good.
Beyond his professional and academic commitments, Rory is an enthusiastic supporter of sport and culture, with a particular dedication to Gaelic Games. He is a member of the executive of Cora Chaitlín GAA Club, where he serves as Irish Language and Culture Officer, and contributes at county level as a member of the Competition Controls Committee of Clare GAA.
