Professor Niamh Stack has been announced as the new Head of Psychology at Mary Immaculate College (MIC). The Clare native takes up the position at an exciting time for the discipline at MIC as the College welcomes the first students on the new Bachelor of Science in Psychology this September. Professor Stack joins MIC following a two-decade long spell at Scotland’s University of Glasgow, where she latterly served as Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience.
Mary Immaculate College (MIC) receiving a second bronze Athena Swan Institution Award today (4 April) is “a testament to the commitment and collegiality of a whole institutional approach that has engaged the entire staff and student community” said Professor Lorraine McIlrath, Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Interculturalism (EDII) at MIC.

Mary Immaculate College (MIC) has been awarded €1.5 million euro in Erasmus Funding in order to develop a European Teaching Academy in Digital Leadership in Education. The programme, known as IDEAL Futures (Integrated Digital Educational Leaderships for the Future) is one of sixteen teacher academy projects to be selected for funding this year.

The scholarship programme, which is awarded for the second time this year, aims to offer financial support for those seeking international protection and includes a full fee waiver and an annual stipend of €3,000.
The two successful applicants—both from Afghanistan—are Farahnaz Haidary who is pursuing an M Ed in Education for Human Rights and Equality and Ahmad Shah Amadhi who is studying for a Masters in Applied Linguistics. Edward, another recipient from 2023, is entering Year Two of his doctorate, a Structured PhD in Applied Linguistics, and will also continue to be supported.
