Mary Immaculate College (MIC) is once again inviting applications for its 2025 University of Sanctuary Scholarship Programme. This initiative, coordinated by MIC’s Office of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Interculturalism (EDII), is designed to promote greater access to higher education for International Protection Applicants, refugees, and migrant groups.
The Scholarship provides each successful applicant with an annual stipend of €3,000 and a full fee waiver. These supports are renewable each year for the full duration of the programme. In total, four Scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate applicants, and two Scholarships will be awarded to postgraduate applicants for the upcoming academic year.
Eligible applicants must have entered the third-level system through one of three recognised pathways: the Irish Leaving Certificate, a FETAC PLC course, or an Access/Pre-University Programme. Applicants must also meet the standard entry requirements for their chosen course and apply through the Central Applications Office (CAO), including their CAO number in their Scholarship application.
To qualify, applicants must be seeking international protection, have resided in Ireland for fewer than 36 months out of the last 60, and not have previously received a University of Sanctuary Scholarship for a Level 8 course or its equivalent.
Speaking about the programme, Prof. Lorraine McEllrath, Director of the Office of EDII, said: "At MIC, we are proud to stand in solidarity with those seeking refuge, safety, and opportunity. As the application deadline approaches, we encourage all eligible applicants to take this step toward a brighter future, and we reaffirm our dedication to making MIC a welcoming and empowering place for all.”
All applicants must complete the Scholarship application form in one sitting and email all supporting documentation to EDII@mic.ul.ie. The closing dates for applications for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate University of Sanctuary Scholarships are 5pm on 31 July and 5pm on 30 June, respectively.
