Despite a hectic North Pole schedule, Santa Claus made a special stop at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) last week, dropping by the annual Student Parent Christmas Party to meet families and share a little festive magic. The much-loved visitor listened to children’s Christmas wishes, handed out treats and brought plenty of excitement to the Early Childhood Preparatory Room, which had been transformed for the occasion.
The event was organised by Rob O’Halloran, Student Life Officer, and Jeanette Ferguson, Student Academic Administration, with the support of Dr Mary Moloney, Associate Professor in the Department of Reflective Pedagogy & Early Childhood Studies (ECCE), who kindly facilitated the use of the ECCE space on campus.
Reflecting on the evening, Rob O’Halloran said:
“We were so delighted to welcome all the families on campus. It was wonderful to see the faces of the children as they played and listened to Santa’s story. It was also hugely important for them to see where their parents go to college, as it is a massive commitment to take on a college degree while raising a family. It was brilliant to give the students something back and recognise the work they are doing.”
Thanking those who helped make this special event happen, Jeanette said:
“I’m delighted once again to be collaborating with Rob and Mary in hosting the annual Student Parent Christmas Party. We are greatly appreciative of the three ECCE undergraduates, Tahlia, Tuva and Nicole, who volunteered their time and showcased some of the skills they have acquired by undertaking the programme. And finally, no event would be complete without the star of the show—Santa!”
This year’s gathering created a festive space for student parents and their children to enjoy time together, meet others, and experience a little Christmas wonder on campus.
