Irish National Citizens’ Parliament present at the July meeting of Limerick City and County Council

The Irish National Citizens’ Parliament on Media and Democracy presented 22 Irish resolutions on Systems, Representation and Participation to Limerick City and County Council at their Council meeting on 14 July 2025.
Jasmine Ryan and Con Cronin made a presentation on behalf of the Parliament to the Council and answered questions afterwards.
Other members of the Parliament attended in person and watched from the gallery while those who registered but could not attend were able to follow proceedings online.
The resolutions were very well received, and lots of questions were asked, and a healthy debate ensued primarily relating to media literacy, transparency and the importance of meaningful engagement between elected politicians, the media and the public. These were all resolutions that were highlighted by Jasmine and Con as relevant to the councillors at the level of local democracy.

A full report of the National Citizens’ Parliament on Media and Democracy was presented in book form to all councillors. Judging from the interest they showed in the project, it is believed that the work of the parliament and the presentation of that work will have influence and impact on the Council going forward.
The research team and the Citizens’ Parliament were officially thanked for all of their hard work by Mayor John Moran.
Next steps: The resolutions will be presented to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport in the Dáil in the Autumn and then to members of the European Parliament and EU Commission in Brussels in the Spring of 2026.
