Pressing the Case 2011-2015

Appointed as College President in 2011, Professor Michael Hayes made accomplishment of the objective to develop a new library a key institutional priority and by the time MIC was readying itself to draw up a new strategic plan for the period 2017-2023 significant progress had been made.
Design consultants were appointed and advised Professor Hayes and the senior management team that for both quality of outcome and financial reasons, construction of an all-new building was the best option. This led to a further process of consultation and presentation of a design vision that was based on the need to move beyond the traditional purpose of a library building to one that met the holistic needs of students and staff rooted in best practice learning and teaching concepts. In parallel, Professor Hayes commenced an intensive process of engagement with the Higher Education Authority and the Department of Education & Science, pressing the case for Exchequer funding towards the new library concept.
