Collections & Resources

Each of our Campus Libraries has different Print Collections and these are listed individually below.
Our Electronic Resources can be accessed on both campuses, and off campus using your MIC computer login, and details of these collections are also included on this page.

Limerick Campus

The main book collection is shelved using the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme. This breaks down by shelfmark and corresponding subject, together with the floor where it's located, as follows:

100 - 199 / Philosophy - Ground Floor
200 - 299 / Religion - Ground Floor
300 - 369 / Social Science - First Floor
370 - 379 / Education - Ground Floor
380 - 399 / Social Sciences - First Floor
400 - 499 / Languages - First Floor
500 - 599 / Natural Sciences & Mathematics - First Floor
600 - 699 / Technology - First Floor
700 - 799 / The Arts: Fine & Decorative - First Floor
800 - 899 / Literature - First Floor
900 - 999 / Geography & History - First Floor

Search All will give you the location of all items held in the library. Older books not in high demand are held in our off site Stores. These will be indicated in the catalogue by "Store - Dock Road Limerick" or "Store - Treaty Limerick". You will need to complete an "Item for Retrieval" form at the Service Desks to order books from the stores and we retrieve them on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please contact the Service Desks for further information.

Print Journals
The library subscribes to a comprehensive range of current journals and back issues in print format. These journals are bound and shelved on the Ground Floor in alphabetical order by journal title or they are held in stores. Further details on individual titles can be found in the Library Catalogue.

The Reference Collection is located on the Ground Floor. It contains encyclopaedias, directories, dictionaries, indexes and abstracts to journals. Material is available for use in the library only. 

Textbooks for primary school classes are located on the Ground Floor and are arranged by subject. 

The Children’s Library is located on the First Floor. It is designed as the ideal school library and is of particular use to students preparing for School Placement.

The Library holds Master and Doctoral theses completed by students as part of their post graduate studies. These are shelved on the First Floor.

Theses are not borrowable.

The Audio-Visual Library is located on the First Floor.

It contains:

  • Pictures and posters

  • Microfilm/fiche - The Irish Folklore Collection and Irish Historical Newspapers

  • DVDs

  • CDs

  • Religious, historical and other artefacts

  • Other material useful for school placement

Thurles Campus

Search All will give you the location of all items held in the library.

The library subscribes to a number range of journals in print format. Current journals are shelved across from the library Desk. Older journals are shelved in the library and Computer Room.

The Reference Collection is shelved at the end of the main Collection. It contains encyclopaedias, directories, dictionaries and indexes. Material is available for use in the library only. 

Textbooks for secondary school classes are located in the Teaching Resources Collection at the back of the library.

The Library has a collection of CDs and DVDs. They are shelved at the back of the library beside the Teaching Resources Collection. 

The Croke Library is located one floor down from the Main Library and houses the old library print collection. Access to materials and the library are by appointment only. 

Electronic Resources - Limerick & Thurles Campus

MIC Libraries have access to over 30,000 full-text online journals. Please click here to search our online journals collection.

MIC Libraries have access to nearly 200 online databases, many with full text.

MIRR is MIC's Open Access Research Repository, providing access to research publications and theses from researchers in Mary Immaculate College.
