Borrow, Renew, Return

  • All students can borrow in both MIC Limerick and MIC Thurles.
  • Periodicals, Theses and Reference books (blue dots on spine) cannot be borrowed.

In order to borrow from the library you need a valid college ID card.

Use the Library Catalogue to see if the item is available in the library.

Note the shelfmark and then go to the shelves to locate the book.

When you find the book you are looking for, use the self-service machines on the ground floor to take the item out on loan, or go to the staff at the Service Desk.

If you have any problems, ask the staff at the Service Desks for help.

You must maintain your Library Account, called My Account, in good stead in order to use the self-issue machines and borrow. You cannot borrow if:

  • You have exceeded your borrowing allowance.
  • You have overdue or lost items.

Students only incur fines on items that have been requested by another borrower. If an item has been requested and needs to be returned, you will receive an email notification in your college email account. The item should be returned within 3 days or a fine of €1 per day will be applied.

Fines due can be viewed through the Library My Account page. If your library items are overdue, you will get an email alerting you to this after 1, 7 and 14 days.

How do you pay a fine?

At the moment, it is only possible to pay fines by debit or credit card at the Self Service Desks on both campuses, or by phone. For further details on paying fines please contact 061-204370 (Limerick Campus) or 0504-20531 (Thurles Campus).

  • Items are declared as lost once they are 28 days overdue
  • An automatic replacement fee of €60 is added to the account
  • On contacting the Library, our staff will check the true replacement value. If this is lower than €60 then the lower price will be charged. If higher, then €60 will be charged.
  • Accounts are blocked until lost items are returned or paid for
