First Year Orientation Schedule 2025 - Limerick Campus
First year PME student orientation will take place in the TARA building (Room T.116), MIC Limerick on Tuesday 2 September 2025, from 10am to 1.30pm.
The schedule for the session is as follows:
- 10am – Welcome address by MIC President, Professor Dermot Nestor and overview of Academic Regulations and Procedures by Professor Niamh Hourigan, Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Dr Geraldine Brosnan, Director of Student Life, in T.116.
- 10.30am - Introduction to the PME Programme with Professor Emer Ring, Dean of Education, and Dr Mags Nohilly, Programme Leader, in T.116.
- 10.45am - Introduction to student supports, library services and a talk from MISU (Students' Union) with information on how to register for clubs and societies, in T.116.
- 11.15am-1.30pm - Campus Tour with MISU: Students leave in assigned groups for a campus tour with MISU Tour Guides. As part of the tour students will stop in G10 for student enrolment, receive Student ID cards in the Halla and stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access the MIC computer systems. Tours will end in the TARA Forum with Student Support Services stands.
10.30am - 3.30pm: Access Orientation (HEAR and DARE)
First year Bachelor of Education (B Ed) student orientation will take place in the TARA building (Lime Tree Theatre), MIC Limerick on Wednesday 3 September 2025, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Please note, the B Ed group will be split into two orientation groups, categorised by surname, and the schedule is as follows:
Group 1: Student Surnames A-K inclusive:
- 9.30am: Introduction to the B Ed programme by Dr Angela Canny, Assistant Dean of Education, and Dr John O' Shea, Programme Leader, in the Lime Tree Theatre.
- 9.45am: Introduction to student supports, library services and a talk from MISU (Students' Union) with information on how to register for clubs and societies, in the Lime Tree Theatre.
- 10am: Campus Tour with MISU: Students leave in assigned groups for a campus tour with MISU Tour Guides. As part of the tour students will stop in G10 for student enrolment, receive Student ID cards in the Halla and stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access the MIC computer systems. Tours will end in the TARA Forum with Student Support Services Stands.

- 9.55am: Introduction to the programmes with Rachel Godfrey, Director of Strategic Operations - Faculty of Arts Office, and brief talks on Placement with Patricia Casserly, Placement Office, an introduction to student supports, the library service and a talk from MISU (Students' Union) with information on how to register for clubs and societies (30-35 minutes), in the Lime Tree Theatre.
Students of Bachelor of Arts

- 11.15am: Campus Tour with MISU: Students leave in assigned groups for a campus tour with MISU Tour Guides. As part of the tour students will stop in G10 for student enrolment, receive Student ID cards in the Halla and stop in Computer Labs to ensure all students can access the MIC computer systems and register for Skills for Study and Work (Bachelor of Arts (MI002), Bachelor of Science in Psychology (MI003) students ONLY). Tours will end in the TARA Forum with Student Support Services
- 12.45pm: Students to meet with their Academic Advisors in the TARA building (rooms T115, T116, T117 & T118, T301, T302, T304, T305). Students will have received details of their advisor prior to arrival at MIC.
- 1.15pm: Informal social event with Faculty of Arts and MISU in the Canteen (Foundation Building).
Students of Bachelor of Arts
- 2.15pm: Overview of subject choice on the Bachelor of Arts, followed by 3-minute introduction to each subject in the TARA building (room T.118)
- 3.45pm-4.30pm: Subject information stands in An tSlí, TARA building. Each department will have an information stand where students will have an opportunity to ask department staff subject related questions.
First Year Orientation Schedule 2025 - Thurles Campus
Orientation for incoming first years will take place in Room G05 on Tuesday 2 September from 9.30am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm. Please see below for Programme specific schedules.

- MI022 – BA in Education, Home Economics and Business Studies

9.45am: Meet with relevant Academic Staff/ Garda Community Liaison Officer/ EDII/ Counselling Service |
10.15am: An introduction to college procedures/regulations etc. with the Academic Administrator |
11am: Meet with the Access and Disability Officer (HEAR /DARE); MISU Team |
11.30am – 1pm: Breakout sessions - Students will be divided into smaller groupings to facilitate tours of the campus and visits to the Library & Computer Room with the MISU Team. |
