Following careful consideration of the current circumstances and the uncertainty created by the notified industrial action, Mary Immaculate College (MIC) has decided to postpone its Autumn Conferring Ceremonies until the spring semester.
This includes:
- LINC ceremony - originally scheduled for Saturday 17 October
- PhD Dinner – originally scheduled for Wednesday 21 October
- Limerick ceremonies – originally scheduled Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October
- MIC Thurles ceremony – originally scheduled for Friday 30 October
The decision follows notification of national industrial action by public service unions, including measures that directly affect the preparation and delivery of conferring ceremonies. MIC respects the right of staff to participate in industrial action.
Ceremonies of this scale require significant preparation in the weeks preceding them, and given the nature of the notified actions and uncertainty about their duration, the College cannot provide graduands and their families with the certainty these occasions require. Taking the decision now avoids the risk of disruption or cancellation at a later stage.
Conferring marks years of work and is an important milestone for graduands, their families and MIC staff. MIC understands the disappointment that postponement will bring. Graduands have already been contacted directly, and their academic achievements are unaffected.
The College is working to confirm new dates as soon as possible, so that graduands can mark their achievements with their families and the wider College community in the celebratory setting they deserve.
