Mary Immaculate College (MIC) extends its best wishes to three academic staff members who have been shortlisted for the 2025/26 Regional Teaching Excellence Award (RTEA), a collaborative initiative between MIC, the University of Limerick (UL) and Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), celebrating excellence in higher education teaching.
Representing MIC at this year’s awards are Dr Richard Bowles, Lecturer in Physical Education in the Department of Arts Education and Physical Education; Dr Edmond Gubbins, Assistant Professor in School Placement and Practitioner Research in the Department of Arts Education and Physical Education; and Dr Jennifer Pope, Lecturer in Reflective Pedagogy and Early Childhood Studies.
The RTEA aims to recognise and champion outstanding teaching practice across the Mid-West region, highlighting innovation, student engagement, and excellence in learning and teaching in higher education.

Dr Bowles, Dr Gubbins and Dr Pope each bring a strong commitment to student learning and engagement, and this acknowledgement reflects the significant contributions they make to our students’ educational experience. We are very proud to see their work recognised at a regional level and wish them every success at the awards.”
The recipient of this year’s award will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday, 4 June at MIC. The event will be hosted by the Presidents of MIC, UL and TUS and will bring together everyone from across the three institutions to celebrate excellence in teaching.
