Edel Foster, EDII with David Cuddihy, MISU, Niall Quinn, MIC Art Technician and Dr Marc Scully, Psychology. Mary Immaculate College marked International Men’s Day 2025 with a reflective and engaging panel event titled “Different Stages: Men’s Journeys, Identities and Change in 2025".
The session brought together three members of the MIC community who offered diverse perspectives on men’s wellbeing, identity, and belonging in today’s rapidly changing world.
David Cuddihy, MISU, shared insights from his work with students. He spoke about evolving observations in student engagement, the importance of creating supportive environments for all genders, and the role of intersectionality in understanding student experiences.
Dr Marc Scully, Lecturer in Psychology, reflected on identity, institutional responsibility, and the complex ways men navigate belonging within higher education. His contribution highlighted how gender and EDI conversations are broadening to include a wider range of male experiences.
Niall Quinn, musician and MIC Art Technician, offered a creative and personal perspective on masculinity, expression, and the challenges men face in finding authentic spaces to connect and reflect. His reflections grounded the discussion in lived experience and the role of creativity in wellbeing.
Across the conversation, the panellists explored themes of vulnerability, expectations, connection and the need for inclusive spaces where men feel able to speak openly. Their honesty and generosity fostered a powerful dialogue that resonated deeply with those in attendance.
The event forms part of MIC’s ongoing commitment to supporting wellbeing and fostering inclusive conversations across the College community.
