What I’ll Miss About MIC & Limerick

30 April 2026
x Walking through the corridors of MIC, I realised this place became part of my story. Not just where I studied, but where I grew.

Coming to Limerick, I thought I was just continuing my studies, but I found something much deeper: a sense of belonging. From the kindness of people at MIC to quiet moments by the River Shannon, this place gently helped me heal, grow, and feel at home again.

Before anything else, I want to begin with what I will never forget about MIC.

I will never forget Dr Emma O'Brien, her kindness, her care, and the way she always made time for me. Our meetings were not just about academics; they were moments where she checked on me, asked about my mental health, and simply listened. I will always remember the warmth she showed, like the time she baked a cake for my friends and me. Her support, in many ways, felt even more effective than counselling. It came from genuine care, and that meant everything to me.

I won’t forget the piano practice rooms, where I used to go and play. I’m not perfect at all, but those moments brought me real joy. It was never about being good; it was about feeling free.

x In the MIC chapel, I found a quiet kind of peace. Even as a Muslim, this space welcomed me in its own way.

I will also deeply miss the chapel. Even though I am Muslim, I found something very peaceful there. Lighting a candle and sitting quietly, it gave me a sense of calm I truly appreciated. It’s a place I will always carry in my heart.

The meditation room is another space I won’t forget, a quiet corner where I could relax, reflect, or even get some work done in peace.

And even the Tara building, where I attended my lectures, holds memories for me. These everyday places became part of my journey, and I will miss them more than I expect.

When I think about Limerick, I feel that my story here might not be over yet. I may stay longer after finishing my studies. But if I ever leave this beautiful place, there are things I know I will never forget.

The River Shannon will always be special to me. It became my place whenever I felt down, frustrated, or overwhelmed. Walking by the river helped me breathe, think, and find peace again.

I will also remember the farms, where I spent time around horses and deer. Those moments made me feel connected to nature, to life, and to something simple and pure.

x With friends who became family. The laughter, the shared experiences, and the memories we created together are what I will carry with me the most.

The trips and tours with friends are memories I will always cherish. The laughter, the joy, and the shared experiences made everything feel lighter and more meaningful.

Most of all, I will miss the sense of community that this country gave me. It’s a feeling that is hard to describe, but easy to feel, it made me feel that I belong.

Advice to Future Students

Be brave and open. Don’t lock yourself away. Take every opportunity and try everything you can.

Because if you don’t try, you won’t learn. And believe me, every step, no matter how small, is worth taking.
