Chaplaincy

Rooted in the College ethos and open to people of all faiths, beliefs and none, Chaplaincy supports spiritual, pastoral and personal wellbeing while respecting the diverse traditions, experiences and perspectives within the MIC community.

College life can bring opportunity and excitement, as well as change, pressure, loneliness, loss and uncertainty. The College Chaplain, Theresa Mulcaire, offers a compassionate and non-judgmental listening presence through both the joyful and challenging moments of college life.

Students and staff are welcome to call in for a conversation, seek pastoral support, explore questions of meaning, or simply spend time in a calm and supportive space. You do not need to be religious, have the right words, or know exactly what you need.

Chaplaincy offers:

• Confidential one-to-one listening and pastoral support
• Support during times of bereavement, loss, illness, transition or personal difficulty
• Spiritual accompaniment and opportunities for reflection and worship
• Seasonal, interfaith and remembrance observances
• Community, volunteering and wellbeing activities
• A listening ear and signposting to other College or specialist supports where appropriate

Chaplaincy works in partnership with college leadership, MISU, Counselling, Student Life, EDII, Faculties of Education and Arts as well as other support services to foster a caring and connected community where everyone is treated with dignity, respect and openness.

Throughout the academic year, Chaplaincy provides opportunities to pause, reflect, celebrate, remember, and connect with others. These include seasonal and community events, wellbeing initiatives and occasions marking significant moments in the life of the College.

The MIC Limerick Chaplaincy Room is located in the Tara Building T1.08, and students and staff are welcome to call in. The College also provides a Chapel, an interfaith room and a meditation space - offering places for prayer, quiet reflection and contemplation.

Chaplaincy is available at MIC Thurles every Wednesday from 10am - 3pm, in the visiting staff office, first floor, St Patrick's Campus, Thurles.

All members of the MIC community are welcome to engage with Chaplaincy in whatever way feels appropriate to them.
