Outreach, Engagement & Community Initiatives
MIC continued its commitment to meaningful outreach programmes by enabling and connecting the MIC community of staff and students with wider society through innovative partnerships that made a difference.
This initiative was run in partnership with Dell Technologies and Limerick Education Centre, and involved schools across Clare, Limerick and Tipperary, with over 400 children and 30 teachers participating in February 2025.
MIC continued its partnership with Age Friendly Alliance Limerick and Probus Group Limerick to run engaging community activities under its Age-Friendly Network initiative.
MIC participated in the HEA-funded Student Inc initiative, with two places being offered on its summer incubator. The STint programme offered paid STEM internships for pre-service teachers and saw three MIC students taking part in two projects, working with Chess Ireland in MTU Tralee and DT Media at UL over the summer period.
A wide range of CRAFT (Creative Arts, Future Technologies) activities took place during this reporting period, including:
- STEM Saturdays and STEM School Workshops, including EDNIP After School STEM programme, and STEM with Special Ed Specialism students
- Lego as Gaeilge with Comluadar Luimnigh involving 32 children and eight adults
- Sessions with Limerick Youth Centre and SAP workshops at The Learning Hub
- Minecraft with Maths Specialism students and fifth and sixth class primary students
- Engineers Week 2025 at MIC, with six workshops and a CRAFT stand at the ESB Science Blast
- Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival, where MIC organised five events
- Regeneron Science to Medicine Exhibition held in CRAFT
- Picture This! Imagine That! exhibition and workshop
