PPLI German Language Upskilling for Primary Teachers - Registration
PPLI German Language Upskilling for Primary Teachers will be delivered by Mary Immaculate College (MIC), in partnership with PPLI/Languages Connect (fully funded by the Department of Education & Youth). This blended programme is designed to support primary teachers who wish to build their confidence and competence in teaching German to pupils.
Prepare for the introduction of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) in Irish Primary Schools
Blended course: 20 hours over 10 weeks
The course is free for primary teachers registered with the Teaching Council. Participants will gain an official certificate of completion.

What This Course Offers
This practical course will help you to:
- Build your own German language confidence and progress from CEFR A2.1 to A2.2.
- Explore engaging methodologies and classroom-ready activities to teach Modern Foreign Languages in 5th and 6th classes and language awareness in 3rd and 4th classes.
- Integrate German with SPHE, SESE, Literacy, Arts Education and Gaeilge through meaningful learning experiences.
- Explore engaging language teaching methodologies through
- Storytelling using international children's literature,
- CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning),
- Visual literacy using illustrations, cartoons and other visual media,
- Blended language learning approaches.
- While the course focuses on the teaching and learning of German, language teaching methodologies and resources have been developed in terms of a plurilingual approach, for a multilingual classroom, and can easily be adapted for the teaching of other MFLs.
Course Dates
Face-to-face Introductory Workshop
- When: 10am – 2pm, Saturday 19 September 2026
- Where: Marino Institute of Education, Dublin
Facilitated by Sabine Egger (MIC) and Leah Elsted (MIE).
Coffee and lunch provided.
Online Classes
- When: 6pm - 8pm on Mondays, from 21 September to 16 November 2026
Who Can Apply?
This course is intended for registered primary teachers with a minimum CEFR A2 level of German who wish to prepare for teaching Modern Foreign Languages in Irish primary schools. Participants receive an official certificate upon successful completion.
