Condolences & Tributes

It is with profound sadness and shock that we learned of the untimely and tragic death of Ashling Murphy, who graduated from MIC as a primary teacher only three months ago. Ashling, a talented musician and performer, had just commenced her teaching career in Durrow National school, Co. Offaly, when her young and promising life was cruelly snatched away from her. The thoughts and prayers of the entire MIC community go out to her family, friends, colleagues and students. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílisProfessor Eugene Wall, President of MIC

I am deeply saddened by the senseless and tragic death of Ashling. She was loved by so many during her time in MIC and although she had graduated, she was still a member of our community. On behalf of MISU, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Ashling’s family, friends and colleagues. They are all in our thoughts. May she rest in peace. Róisín Burke, President of MISU

Ashling graduated from the B Ed programme here at MIC last October. That graduation was supposed to be the start of a long and fulfilling career as a primary school teacher which has been cruelly snatched from her. What a loss to her family, friends and particularly her colleagues and pupils at Durrow National School. Ar dheis Dé go faith a anam. RIP Ashling. Prof. Niamh Hourigan, Vice-President of Academic Affairs, MIC

It is with great sadness, disbelief and shock that I heard of Ashling’s passing. As Dean of Education here at Mary Immaculate College, I only recently passed Ashling’s graduation parchment to be presented to her at Graduation in October last. It was a day of such joy and celebration at the College, where we were delighted to mark our students’ achievement over their time with us, and particularly the class of 2021, who had worked so hard and achieved so much through these very challenging times. Having been a primary teacher myself for almost 20 years, I still remember the excitement at finally being in a classroom with children and the joy that only children can bring to each day. During Ashling’s time here with us at the College, she has touched the lives of so many, from the joy she herself brought to the children she met and the schools she was part of on her many school placement experiences, and especially to the Mary Immaculate College community, where she will always belong and be a part of. It is patently clear that Ashling was truly a light in the lives of the children in Durrow National School and greatly enriched their lives over the past while. To have Ashling's life so viciously and cruelly snatched from her is beyond anything words can capture. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to all of Ashling’s family and friends and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers at this time of profound sorrow, pain, grief and crippling loss. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis agus leaba aici i measc na naomh. Prof. Emer Ring, Dean of Education, MIC

The senseless loss of our recent B Ed graduate Ashling Murphy has shaken and shocked our entire community and wider society. Ashling was a young, inspiring and talented woman on the cusp of her career. My sincere sympathies to the Murphy family, her wide circle of friends and the Tullamore community. As Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Interculturalism at MIC, I stand in solidarity with our community of staff and students against gender based violence. We need to ensure that women have full and free independence to be safe in their daily lives and treated with equal dignity. Prof. Lorraine McIlrath, Director of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) and Interculturalism, MIC

As a third level College, we have had our tragedies in the past but what has happened Ashling is totally different - way off the Richter scale. So cruel and senseless. Aishing had it all: a good degree from MIC, a permanent job at home. She had achieved what so many can only dream of. She was an all rounder. Camogie, music, cooking, style and a lovely person as well. To have it all snatched away for nothing at 23 makes no sense. My heart goes out to her mam and dad and her brother and sister along with her classmates. All I can do is pray for her and them. May she rest in peace. Fr. Michael Wall, Lecturer and College Chaplain, MIC

Ashling was a passionate educator who excelled in sharing her love of music with young and old. At MIC, she immersed herself fully in the college community and consistently demonstrated a deep love of learning. The loss to her family, friends, colleagues, and the many communities she was part of, is immense. Rest in peace Ashling. Dr Ailbhe Kenny, Lecturer in Music Education, MIC

To the beautiful family and friends of Ashling, I cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I did not know Ashling personally, but I believe anybody who wants to devote their life to working with kids is a beautiful, kind and caring person. Ashling's smile will be forever imprinted on our hearts and as a student in Mary I currently, I will ensure, along with my classmates, that her spirit is kept alive and that her story is told. Rest in paradise beautiful. Ali O'Dwyer, MIC student

Sincere condolences to the Murphy family on the death of their beautiful daughter Ashling. Rest in Peace Ashling. Karen Abbot, LINC Tutor, LINC Programme

Condolences to Ashling's family and friends from a fellow MIC graduate. May she rest in peace. Jane Butler

My sincerest condolences to Ashling's family and to all who knew her. Ashling was a beautiful soul and although I did not know her closely, she would always stop, smile and say hello. The impact that Ashling's passing has had on the nation is testament to her character. She will forever be remembered as the positive, friendly and beautiful woman that she was. Heaven has certainly gained an Angel and there is no doubt she will guide her family and friends through these tragic times. Helen Byrne

Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam dílis Ashling. Ag smaoineamh oraibh ar fad. Síle Ní Choincheannain, MIC

My deepest sympathy to Ashling's family, friends and her colleagues. May she rest in peace. Megan Ahern, MIC

Our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the beautiful talented Ashling Murphy in this difficult time. She was an extraordinary person. Rest in Paradise. Helena O'Neill and family

There are absolutely no words to describe what has happened to Ashling. Like so many of us, she was just at the beginning of her career and has been robbed of the amazing life she had lived and would still have lived. The teaching community are all deeply affected by this and from what I have read of Ashling she had touched the lives of so many. I can only pray and keep all those who knew her in my thoughts. Ashling's memory will never be forgotten. Ar dheis Dé go raiby a hanam dilís. MIC student

Sending all my love and prayers to Ashling's family. A beautiful and talented girl taken from this world too soon. May she rest in peace.

RIP Ashling, my thoughts and prayers are with Ashling's family and all those who knew her. My deepest condolences. Cian O'Connell, MIC student

Sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ashling. I pray that God will bring comfort to all who are hurting and the peace that surpasses all understanding. 'The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.' Psalm 34:18. Shona Brazil

Deepest sympathy to Ashling's family at this tough time. RIP.

I would like to pass on my sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Ashling Murphy. There is no doubt, as has been seen by the outpouring of disbelief, grief and hurt which has been seen from across the country and across the world in these past few days that Ashling's untimely and tragic death has touched us all in ways hard to put into words. I did not know Ashling personally, but I can tell that she was a person who was deeply loved and who loved deeply. All of my thoughts and prayers will be given in honour of the many lives whom Ashling touched in her 23 years on this Earth and for the many in whom she will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Ashling. Colin Moran, MIC student

Sending sincere and heartfelt condolences from a Limerick native in London. This has hit the worldwide community of Irish people, we feel your pain, we cry with you. This senseless act by an individual is unimaginable. There is nothing I or anyone can say to take your pain away from losing the talented, intelligent and amazing Ashling away from you and the world. I am so very sorry for your loss. Amanda Wiper

Ashling, Rest in Peace. May you be forever safe.

My deepest sympathies to Ashling's family, friends, community and her pupils. A beautiful woman who was very talented. May she rest in peace.

To the Murphy Family, I am a mature B Ed student at MIC. My daughter who was an Arts student would have graduated at the same time as your precious Ashling. I wish to add my heartfelt sympathies to you on the tragic passing of your beloved daughter. From all accounts, she was a remarkable and talented young woman with her whole life ahead of her. The MIC community and those of us from Limerick are in deep shock and sorrow and are in solidarity with you. Please accept my best wished and thoughts and praying you will find the strength in the coming months as you go forward without her. Pamela Downes, MIC student and mother

I am at a loss to put into words how I feel about the tragic, senseless, cruel end that was brought to the precious life of an innocent, talented, beautiful and loved young woman. Ashling, by all accounts, was clearly a shining light in the life of so many. I extended my deepest sympathies to all those who knew and loved Ashling, particularly her family at this time. May Ashling's gentle soul be remembered and may she rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Ashling's family and friends. May she Rest in Peace, Amen.

Ashling, I did not know you but your path to teaching was a similar one to mine. I remember some of the best days of my life being those spent at Mary I and I think back fondly on how I felt at the prospect of becoming a teacher. I grieve that you never got the chance to fully experience the sheer enjoyment and blessing that comes with being a teacher. I did not know you but I know you would have been an excellent one. I grieve for all the students who will miss out on the pleasure of being taught by you and for your family and friends who have lost a beautiful young woman. I offer my sincerest condolences and pray that you rest in peace.

A terrible loss. A beautiful, talented young lady. My sincere sympathy to Ashling's Mam and Dad, her brother, sister, friends and colleagues. May Ashling rest in peace. Paula Hourigan, MIC

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely death of recent Mary I graduate, Ashling Murphy. It is just heartbreaking. Her tragic death left not only the MIC community in mourning, but the whole nation. Ashling was a gifted musician, a dedicated camogie player and a newly qualified primary school teacher full of joy and enthusiasm and was going to be a huge asset to any school she set foot in. My heart goes out to her family and friends and I am very sorry for their loss. I am sending my deepest and most sincere condolences to those people who knew her and were close to her. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. RIP Ashling. Billy Hedigan, Former Vice-President of MISU and MIC Graduate

My sincerest condolences to Ashling Murphy's family, friends, pupils and loved ones. To have her life taken from her in such a way is just unthinkable; a young woman with so much promise and life ahead of her. Thinking of Ashling and the many lives she touched; her name and face will be etched in many people's minds for a long time to come.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ashling's family at this time. May Ashling rest in peace.

It is hard to put into words how much Ashling's untimely death has affected us at our school. My husband relayed a story that brought us to tears last night when he heard the Principal of Ashling's school on the radio talking about a child in Ashling's class. The principal told the class that they had three teachers with them today and a child said, no, we have four and pointed to the picture of "Miss Murphy" in the memorial set up in their classroom - Miss Murphy is here too, the child said. I hope that the vibrancy, energy and joy that shines out of all the pictures we see of Ashling stays with her family, friends and all who knew her as a way to remember her as a person and to keep her alive in people's hearts. May all men and women stand up and be counted in showing respect and being kind to each other so that a tragedy like this never happens again. Coladh sámh Ashling. Muireann Ní Arrachtáin, MIC student

Deepest sympathy to Ashling's family on the sad and tragic loss of your gorgeous daughter and sister. May Ashling's brightness continue to light your lives as you come to terms with losing her. May she rest in peace. Dr Sandra Ryan, Lecturer, MIC

I only had the pleasure of teaching Ashling in the first and second years of her B Ed but she left a lasting impression. In lectures she was extremely pleasant, with a ready smile and eager disposition. She was always surrounded by friends. She engaged so easily in conversation at the beginning of lectures and was always one of the first to participate in activities. She had a shyness about her too, evident in her very respectful interactions. I can only imagine the great love and joy she brought to her own classroom and the way she shared her many skills with her pupils. My deepest sympathies to Ashling's parents and siblings, to her extended family, her many friends and her school community. My thoughts and prayers are with you and will stay with you. Ashling will be long remembered in MIC where she shone brightly. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. Dr Fionnuala Tynan, Lecturer in Educational Methodology, MIC

With deepest sympathy to Ashling's family and friends. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Le gach dea-ghuí, Eucharia McCarthy, MIC

I have a deep sense of grief at Ashling's tragic death and the sorrow and sadness for her family, friends and the community in Tullamore. Please accept my sincerest sympathy. May the wild beauty of the invisible world gather her spirit. Mind her and embrace her in belonging. Mary Daly, Limerick

For Ashling, I was fortunate enough to have attended the same college as you and also play against you and your camogie team in the Offaly championship, us as a county and a nation are numb about this brutal fatality. May you rest in peace Ashling. You will forever be in our hearts. Ellie Hickey, MIC

Sincere condolences to Ashling's heartbroken parents, sister, brother, boyfriend, fellow musicians, colleagues and pupils, especially her 1st class pupils in Durrow National School on the loss of their beloved Ashling. May the light of heaven shine upon her beautiful soul. Principal, Staff, Pupils, Parents and Board of Management of Ballycar NS

I want to send my deepest regards to all the family and friends of Ashling. I want to also send my regards to all the students of Ashling and the staff. I cannot imagine how you must be feeling. As a young teacher myself and I am the same age of Ashling, it is frightening. I graduate this year, and Ashling should be still with us and enjoying her life and her career. It is overwhelming to think that someone could be so brutal and take the life of such a great person. Although, I did not know her. From what I have heard she was a great person. We are deeply devastated in Mary Immaculate College. Unfortunately, we cannot control people's actions. I have no doubt that she had a major impact on all those around her. As a teacher you often do not understand the impact you have on students. I send my regards to her students I have no doubt Ashling will have a permanent positive impact on her students. As a promise to all her family and friends. I will make sure that as an educator I will have a major impact on my students. We need to make them aware of this violence and put a stop to it. I think many people will do the same to stop this. I promise to do so, for Ashling. We need to break the cycle, it is not acceptable. May she rest in peace. She will always be in your hearts.

I would like to express my sincerest sympathy to Ashling's family, partner and friends at this very sad time. A beautiful young teacher who touched the lives of so many. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Deepest sympathies to Ashling's family and friends. May she rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ashling's family, frinds and community. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. Stephanie Moriarty, NUIG

I am at a loss for words as to what to say to Ashling's family on the completely senseless and brutal way their beautiful young daughter/sister's life was snatched away on Wednesday 12th January. My sincere condolences to you all at this horrific time, and my heart is broken for you. I am also thinking of the children at Durrow N.S. and how they are trying now to process what has happened to their teacher, who enriched their lives. I did not know Ashling on a personal level, but one of my nephews who is heavily involved in the Irish music scene did know her. May Ashling rest in peace, and her loss in this life is Heaven's gain. Anne-Marie Hannon, Admissions Officer, MIC

Sending prayers to your family.

As a Mary Immaculate College alumni I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Ashling's family, friends, colleagues and community. Tá croíthe mhuintir na hÉireann briste. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal. Orla Ní Fhinneadha, Gaillimh

My thoughts and prayers are with Ashling and her family at this time, may God look over you all and keep you all close to his heart and may Ashling rest in peace in the arms of the angels.

I never knew Ashling, but the news of her untimely death is a massive shock and reflects how strange and uncertain our little island has become, I only hope that her family and friends find comfort in the messages and support of our college and the whole country. We can only hope that her murderer is brought to justice and Ashling's family can then mourn in peace.

Sincerest condolences to Ashling's family, friends, loved ones colleagues and students. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.

Sending sincerest sympathies to all who knew Ashling, her family, friends, colleagues and her school children. May you all find comfort in each other, find support from the community around you and strength from knowing Ashling to endure the days and months ahead. This awful tragedy has touched the nation and there is a collective grief. Aisling feels so familiar and close to people, a friend, sister, daughter, going about her day. She was clearly an amazing and talented young girl at the start of her life's journey. As a parent, sister, woman, teacher, MIC student; every part of me feels sorrow for your loss. MIC student

Deepest sympathy to the Murphy Family. May she rest in peace. Liam Butler

For the family and friends of Ashling, While we all mourn with you and are deeply shocked at the tragedy, only you will all know and feel how deep your loss and pain go. We are all with you in prayer and thought at this devastating time. Ashling brought her smiles and energy to classrooms from Limerick to Offaly, developing into a caring and committed teacher. My deepest condolences to all of you, Eamonn Mitchell, School Placement, MIC

My sincere condolences to Ashling's family, friends and the Durrow NS community. Having graduated in the same cohort as Ashling just this October, I can relate to the feelings of excitement, nervousness and anticipation the last few months would have brought her. While I did not know Ashling it is very possible that we could have exchanged smiles in the corridor one day or sat beside each other in a lecture and chatted. After everything we've learned about Ashling since your loss, about the beauty she brought to this world, I hope I did. The world has been robbed of an excellent teacher, a talented musician and a beautiful soul. I hope to leave an impression on the students I teach one day as Ashling did on hers. I will think of her when I read to my students, when we sing & play music together, when we wave goodbye at the school gate. May she rest in peace. Ciara Hayes, MIC alumna

Such a senseless act against a beautiful soul. With deep sympathy. Áine Feeney, County Cork

My sincerest condolences to Ashling's family, friends and all those who knew her. Although I did not know Ashling, I feel deep sorrow and shock at her tragic passing. The impact she had on those around her is evident and was highlighted by one of students, who when discussing their memories of Miss Murphy noted that she never got cross if you got a question wrong, she just showed the right way to do it. As I prepare to enter into my teaching career, above all else, the kindness, patience and compassion that Ashling demonstrated to her students will be in the fore of my mind and something I aim to emulate. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

Our deepest sympathies to Ashling's family, friends, colleagues and students. She has clearly made a great impact on everyone that knew and loved her. As the saying goes 'Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but Love leaves a memory no one can steal', Ashling will be remembered fondly by everyone that knew her. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. The Quin Family, Co. Clare

So very sad at Ashling's passing. Our whole little country has Ashling and her family in their thoughts today. We, as a family will hold our daughter a little tighter this evening in her memory. May Ashling rest in peace. Richard, Karla and the Carroll family in Ennis, Co. Clare

Rest in peace.

Rest in Peace Ashling. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Paul and June Murtagh, Dunboyne, Co. Meath

My deepest condolences and sympathy to Ashling's family and anyone touched by her presence. In my semester abroad at MIC, I only very briefly knew her when she welcomed all of the international students to the college. In that short time, and even if she had no idea, she made everyone of us newcomers feel right at home. Everyone she interacted with felt welcome and she put a smile on all of our nervous faces that day. Thank you, Ashling, for your incredible, extraordinary kindness. Seamus Clerkin, United States

Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam dílis Ashling – I had the privilege of meeting Ashling as a member of the MIC House Band (along with their amazing lecturer Dr Geraldine Cotter) when RTÉ Radio One’s Céilí House recorded a session in the college in March 2020; indeed it was the last memorable event we organised prior to the onset of the Pandemic – she embodied all that is wonderful about our students; she was multi-talented and beautiful in every sense and bore her gifts lightly. I remember thinking that day how lucky I was to work in MIC and have the opportunity to engage with such wonderfully talented and enthusiastic young people as were in that room that day – it was a real moment in time. It is impossible to think that such hope and joy was snuffed out in such a brutal fashion – táim ag smaoineamh uirthi agus ar a muintir ach tá sé in am mná na hÉireann a chosaint chun a chinntiú nach dtarlóidh a leithéad arístCaitríona Breathnach, MIC

May Ashling find eternal peace and love in the presence of Jesus Christ; may your parents, family and friends find peace and receive justice for this evil act that was perpetrated against you. It's time now the Irish people and its government passed stronger laws that will punish perpetrators much more severely for violent crimes against women and children. Both myself and my daughter have been shocked and deeply saddened by this evil act and I pray your sad death will be the catalyst for righteous change. May you Rest in Peace. Terence Brazil

In memory of Ashling Murphy, and in showing a tiny way of consoling, or trying to console the Murphy family, extended families and many friends. Like many others, I did not know Ashling. The power of her smile, light, musical talent, her teaching skills and ability to make a room sparkle is evident from the many tributes that I have seen online and on television through the news coverage since Thursday morning and last night’s Late Late Show tribute. I am a two-time graduate of Mary I, and can remember the excitement of graduating with a degree that is up there with the best, an excitement I’m sure that Ashling had her self a few short months ago. Words will never be enough to express how truly sorry I am that she was taken from this world. Words can not express how sorry I am to the family, friends, students and loved ones of Ashling. This senseless act of cruelty has left the whole nation shocked and devastated that such a talented and lovely girl could be taken so soon. I never knew Ashling but I have learnt the last few days that she was the kind of person that we all should strive to be. The students of MIC, like myself, will walk with heavier hearts when we return to college. Ashling’s name and smile will be etched on our hearts forever. May she rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of teaching Ashling in 2nd year Physical Education. We are fortunate to come across so many excellent students at MIC, but she was, sincerely, a stand out teacher candidate. I recall her excellence merely in the everyday  interactions she had with her classmates and I, mannerly, respectful, caring, supportive, assured. It was obvious back then that she would make an immediate impression in any school. Her loss is devastating to her family, community and the little children she would go on to teach. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. Dr Niamh Kitching, Lecturer in Physical Education, MIC

My deepest sympathy to Ashling’s family, her many friends, her colleagues, her students both in and out of school, those in her musical and sporting families. In her short life she has touched the lives of many people. I have very fond memories of Ashling and her enthusiasm for traditional music, particularly during the preparation and recording of RTE Céili House in MIC; the day before lockdown. Little did we think that it would be our last tune with her. Suaimhneas síoraí ar a hanam ceolmhar aláinn. Geraldine Cotter, Lecturer in Music Education, MIC

I think it is clear to everyone whether they knew Ashling personally or not that she was a kind soul. She always said hello or gave a friendly smile when she passed you in the corridors of Mary I. She was a gifted musician and did her best to pass her gifts on through teaching. The teaching community, and the world have lost one of the best. She was only beginning her career but it is clear to see the impact she already made in her school community and her pupils lives. She will always be remembered. Rest in Peace Ashling. To the Murphy family, I didn't know Ashling but her tragic death struck a deep cord with me for two reasons; I also run on a regular basis and if on my own I'm always looking over my shoulder. And also, because I was in college with Órla Benson who was senselessly killed in Boston in 1995. My heart is broken for you all. I hope her light and spirit will guide you through the grief of losing her. I wish you God's strength. My sincerest condolences to her family and everyone who knew her. Catherine Teehan-de-Greef, Deventer, The Netherlands (formerly Kilkenny)

With deepest sympathies to Ashling's heartbroken family, her boyfriend, her colleagues in Scoil Cholmcille, her many College friends and her music-family. Mo chomhbhrón libh ar fad agus guímíd go mbeidh suimhneas siorraí ag Ashling i meacs na naomh. Neil Ó Conaill, MIC

It is beyond comprehension that such a beautiful and talented young woman should be taken from all those who loved her in such a brutal manner. I want to express my deepest sympathy to her Dad, Mum, brother, sister, wider family, her local community in Tullamore, her teaching colleagues in Durrow, her pupils, there, her classmates from Mary I and all those other people whose lives she touched. May Ashling rest in peace and may her family be fully aware of the care and love God has for them.

Ashling, I will always remember you for your kindness, goodness, generosity, and talent. I am privileged to have known you as a teacher, mentor and friend and I'll never forget your bright, warm smile. Thank you for touching my life, and the lives of so many. You are an inspiration, and we'll continue to carry on your legacy in the tunes that we play, the pupils that we teach and the people we meet. Ray, Kathleen, Amy, Cathal, Ryan, and all of Ashling's extended family, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Heaven has gained an angel - and I'm sure Ashling will continue to look over you all and give you the strength to continue every single day. Thank you Ashling, for being such a wonderful inspiration. I would like to offer my deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and anyone that knew Ashling Murphy. As a fellow graduate with Ashling I was lucky to have crossed paths with Ashling many times throughout our four years and while these moments may have only been brief each one will always stay with me. This is because to Ashling it didn't matter if she knew you well or not she would always be ready with a hello or a smile something that will never be forgotten by everyone that knew her. No words will ever describe the shock and sadness that will be felt by everyone that was lucky to know her. R.I.P. Ashling. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis. Rory Brown

Le comhbhrón ó chroí ar bhás Aisling. My deepest sympathies to Ashling's family, friends and school community on her tragic passing. I graduated with Ashling last October. I did not know Ashling personally, but I am certain she was the kind of person whom I would have shared a warm smile with in the halls of Mary I. Although there truly are no words at this time, I would like you to know that the class of 2021 will never forget Ashling. Her spirit will live on through all of us in the classrooms of Ireland and abroad for years to come, as we guide our students to become dedicated, caring and compassionate individuals just as she was. May her beautiful soul rest in peace. Sinéad, MIC Class of 2021

There are no words. This truly goes beyond what anyone can bare thinking about. But now it has. I didn't know Ashling personally, but over the last few days I feel I do. This senseless and monstrous act has left so many affected. I cannot begin to imagine how her family, friends and those who knew her feel. All I can do is offer my deepest condolences. I saw the beautiful picture of Ashling standing under the Mary Immaculate College sign outside of the old building. It's exactly where I took my graduation pictures the day before Ashling graduated from Primary. This hits too close to home. I'm angry. I'm devastated. Like the rest of the country. I hope Ashling's family and loved ones can feel the support and love from all of us. It's not enough. But things will change. They have to. MIC alum

My heartfelt condolences are with the entire Murphy family at this awful time. Ashling had her whole life ahead of her. I did not know Ashling in person but she sounded like a very lovely person. As a fellow 2021 graduate, I am shocked at this terrible tragedy, a young woman fresh out of college with a career to look to, and the same age as me (23). RIP Ashling, and my thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. Heaven has gained an angel, and may the Lord guider her family through these difficult times ahead.
