The festival consists of a schedule of events celebrating the social, cultural and economic achievements of women. It also seeks to highlight the many challenges still experienced by women, with a view to stimulating dialogue around the ways in which these challenges might be addressed.

MIC FemFest 2026 ran from Tuesday 3 to Thursday 5 March with a series of workshops, seminars, talks and performances, with diverse topics including girls and sport, feminism and art making, women in radio, women in philosophy, and migration. Performances included an original one-woman play, a spoken word lunchtime event, and a performance of classic songs by female artists. The festival opened with a pre-festival workshop on girls, identity, school and sport on 2 March and was officially launched on 3 March with an opening address by Limerick sporting legend and acclaimed author, Jackie McCarthy O’Brien. The festival closed on 5 March with a showing of the award-winning film, Blue Road, the Edna O’Brien Story, which features Golden Globe winner, and Oscar nominee, Jessie Buckley.

Femfest is supported by MIC Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Interculturalism (EDII).
