Call for Papers

Deadline for "Call for Papers" has now been extended to June 1st!

Participation in the Conference - Call for Papers, Call for Group Sessions

The European Society wants to involve its members and all those coming to the conference as fully as possible in discussing its theme. To do this, there will be three sessions, one Friday morning (Aug 21st) and two on Saturday (Aug 22nd), each of 90 minutes, for Short Papers from individuals or longer presentations from Groups. It is also our intention to have an opening session for Short Papers from Junior/Emerging Scholars on the Thursday afternoon. All these will be organised in parallel sessions in different rooms.

1.         Call for Short Papers

Each of the sessions for papers will be divided into two, and we invite offers of papers which will last about 20 minutes (not longer than 25 minutes) and which will allow a further 15-20 minutes for questions and discussions. Please note that we intend to have strict time keeping for all sessions.

Papers may be given in English or French or German. They may represent any discipline within Theology (e.g. biblical, historical, practical, systematic, moral theology etc.) or they may be interdisciplinary. They should relate in some way to the theme of the conference which is Ecology (including the theology of creation), and Economics insofar as it relates to ecological issues.

Because the conference is principally about Ecology, we may consider offers of papers which are not primarily theological, provided they can be shown to have some relevance to Theology.

2.         Call for Group Sessions

Groups of participants from one country or several may wish to speak collectively about a topic related to the conference theme, or they may wish to report on recent research, or on the work of a national section or theological network, for example. A group will need more time and it will be possible for them to have a full 90 minutes. They should present their work in one of the three main languages of the conference.

3.         Call to Junior/Emerging Scholars

Subject to sufficient demand, we intend to precede the main conference with an afternoon (Thursday 21st Aug) of short papers from Junior/Emerging Scholars, i.e. doctoral, Habilitation and recent PhD students. We expect these will be based on recent research. These can be from a broad range of theological interests but we would hope to attract papers which relate to the conference theme.

4.         Submissions

All submissions for Short Papers and Group Sessions will be considered for approval by a small committee.
Each offer should contain the person’s name or persons’ names and their position(s) if they are members of an academic institution.
There should be a title and a brief description of the content (normally about 200-300 words). This should be in the language in which you want to give the paper(s).

The final date for submissions has been extended to June 1st 2009 . Offers made before this will receive an early reply to help you apply for financial help from your institution.

All submissions should be by email attachment and should be sent to Dr Geoffrey Turner at galfridus@btinternet.com
