Ireland Canada Dobbin Scholar visits

Since 1993 ICUF has awarded Dobbin Scholarships to both Irish and Canadian scholars and academics whose research contributes to the rich academic and cultural links between Canada and Ireland. The awards are named after Craig Dobbin, whose initial most generous donation in 1993 led to the foundation of the Ireland Canada University Foundation. Since 1993, the Dobbin Scholarships have been supported by many individuals, organisations, businesses and corporations who share Craig's vision, and the vision of ICUF. Employment Based Programme - 2016 Call

The Irish Research Council Employment Based Programme 2016 has now launched, and details of the scheme and all relevant documentation can be accessed here. The online system is not currently open to applications, however word versions of all the relevant application forms (applicant, supervisor and referee) are available on our website. The online system should go live within the coming week. As in previous years, an FAQ system will operate, and all queries can be sent to schemes@research.ie   


Centre Culturel Irlandais Paris Residences for Irish Musicians and Composers

The Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris is seeking applications from Irish or Ireland-based musicians and composers for two residencies and a range of fellowships. There are also range of other residences available, for design, dance and literary artists, and for Wicklow and Midlands artists.  Fellowship bursaries are available for four to six weeks for those who wish to conduct research into the CCI's Old Library and Historical Archives Collection, as well as a Rev. Liam Swords Foundation Bursary for students/researchers at post-graduate level. Full details here

MSCA Innovative Training Networks Webinar

In advance of the 2016 Call deadline for MSCA Innovative Training Networks (12th January 2016), the Irish Marie Skodowska-Curie Office are offering a webinar to assist researchers with writing an ITN proposal. The webinar will be hosted by Dr. Jennifer Brennan, NCP for the Marie Skodowska-Curie Actions and will take place from 16:00 to 17:00 on December 1st. To register, please email mariecurie@iua.ie. Do you want to know how to use Journal Citation Reports and Scopus to find high impact journals in your research field? Then come to this lunch-time workshop on Monday at 1.05pm in the Small Training Room of the Library. Selecting high impact journals using Journal Citation Reports and Scopus. This workshop will show you how to use Journal Citation Reports to select high impact ISI/Web of Science journals based on the Journal Impact Factor. Scopus will also be used to select high impact journals based on the metrics SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) and SNIP. To book your place please contact Dr. Fintan Bracken. Epilepsy Ireland

Epilepsy Ireland encourage proposals for all types of research including basic, clinical, psychosocial and health services research. Proposals that cover one or more of the following research areas are particularly welcome in the current funding round: Development of improved diagnosis, treatments or support interventions. Genetics of epilepsy. Psychosocial aspects/ impact of epilepsy. Epilepsy and education. Use of assistive technology in epilepsy. Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy and other epilepsy deaths.Epilepsy in specific demographics such as children/ young adults; the elderly; people with an intellectual disability; women; men. MRCG/HRB Joint Funding Scheme 2016

MS Ireland has recently launched its call for proposals. Details are available here.  MS Ireland will accept formal applications which follow the theme: 'Mindfulness and Meditation based interventions for people with Multiple Sclerosis which can improve the quality of life for people with MS'. This programme awards funding to time-specific research projects. Projects of up to €25,000 investment for two years will be considered for this call. (€25K in year one and €25K in year two). The closing date for applications to MS Ireland is 11 December 2015. 

Naughton Fellowship 2016

The Naughton Fellowship is an opportunity for an academic to spend a semester at the University of Notre Dame working closely with the education faculty in the Institute of Educational Initiatives. More details here

Enterprise Ireland International Research Fund 

The aim of the International Research Fund is to encourage and facilitate Irish 3rd level Research Performing Organisations (RPOs) to participate meaningfully in international collaborative consortia that are addressing industry relevant R&D and innovation issues, and where long-term potential for enhancing the wealth creating ability of the economy may exist. Science Foundation Ireland President of Ireland Young Researcher Award 

The President of Ireland Young Researcher Award (PIYRA) is Science Foundation Ireland's most prestigious award to recruit young researchers currently based around the world to carry out their research in third level institutions in Ireland. The award recognises outstanding engineers and scientists who, early in their careers, have already demonstrated or shown exceptional potential for leadership at the frontiers of knowledge. Department of Education and Science Exchange of Students for Technical Experience

IAESTE (The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) is an international student exchange association. It offers students studying architecture, engineering, information technology or science in full-time third-level education the opportunity to gain work experience in another country. IAESTE Ireland is managed by Léargas in partnership with the Department of Education and Science. See more details here

European Commission Postdoc Funding Opportunities - Marie Curie Cofund 

Usually the People programme directly supports, through its Marie Curie actions, researchers or host organisations of researchers. As an exception to this rule, it also co-funds regional, national and international fellowship programmes that follow a similar scope than the other Marie Curie actions in terms of research training and career development. This page lists the current COFUND action grant recipients who are operating such programmes, and in particular the open calls for proposals. More details here

European Commission Lifelong Learning Calls 2012 

The Lifelong Learning Programme is the EU's main funding programme in the field of education training.  The Programme's main objectives are;
· To contribute through lifelong learning to the development of the EU as an advanced knowledge society, with sustainable economic
development, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion; · To foster interchange, cooperation and mobility between education and training institutions and systems within the EU so that they

German Academic Exchange Service - Funding opportunities for study/research in Germany 

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. We offer programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, providing financial support to over 67,000 individuals per year. We also represent the German higher education system abroad, promote Germany as an academic and research destination, and help build ties between institutions around the world.  More details here

Údarás na Gaeltachta Research and development grants 

Údarás na Gaeltachta invites applications for its research and development grants. These enable businesses to develop innovative products, processes and services that enhance their ability to perform in competitive markets.  Grants may cover R&D salaries, directly related additional overheads, the cost of capital assets, the cost of contractual research, technical knowledge and patents bought or licensed from other sources, or other operating expenses, including costs of materials, supplies, travel and subsistence related to the research activity. Údarás na Gaeltachta Feasibility study grants 

Údarás na Gaeltachta invites applications for its feasibility study grants. These enable groups, organisations, businesses or individuals to assess the viability of business ideas. A significant portion of costs may be covered, including salaries and wages of personnel, cost of consultants, related travel and subsistence, and any other additional overheads. More details here

Arts Council Travel and training award 

The Arts Council invites applications for its travel and training award. This award supports the professional development of artists and others working professionally in the arts in Ireland. There are two strands to this award: travel and training outbound, and travel and training inbound. Travel and accommodation costs are funded under this strand. Full details here

Society for Musicology in Ireland Grants 

The Society For Musicology In Ireland invites applications for its grants. These support musicological research by postgraduate research students, non-affiliated scholars or academics without recourse to institutional funds. Financial assistance for presentations at conferences outside of Ireland may also be considered. Applicants must have been members of the society for a minimum of six months prior to applying. Grants are worth up to €400 or up to €200 for conferences.    Full details here

Science Foundation Ireland Strategic partnership programme 

Science Foundation Ireland invites expressions of interest for its strategic partnership programme. This aims to fund standalone research initiatives that are not otherwise served by national funding programmes and have strong potential for delivering economic and societal impact to Ireland. Projects involving strategic opportunities within all areas covered by the foundation's legal remit are eligible for funding.  Full details here

Enterprise Ireland Innovation partnerships 

Enterprise Ireland invites applications for its innovation partnerships. This scheme encourages Irish-based companies to work with Irish colleges to access their expertise and resources to develop new and improved products, processes and services, and generate new knowledge and know-how.

InterTrade Ireland North-South Partnerships for Horizon 2020 - Travel Scheme 

North South collaboration in Horizon 2020 really makes sense so InterTradeIreland has developed 2 travel schemes to help Horizon 2020 participants with the cost of establishing North South partnerships:
* The Cross-Border Collaboration Voucher facilitates early stage partnership development by offering up to £500 towards the travel and accommodation costs associated with identifying potential partners in the opposite jurisdiction. * The EU Travel Scheme helps existing North South partnerships to travel to EC information days and other Horizon 2020 events within Europe to identify potential partners from other member states. Science Foundation Ireland Research professorship

Science Foundation Ireland invites expressions of interest for its research professorship programme. This assists research bodies in their recruitment of world-leading researchers for professorial chairs, or similar research leadership positions, within the biotechnology, information and communication technology, and sustainable energy and energy efficiency sectors. The programme may also act as a mechanism for recruitment of individuals that possess a strong industry background, as well as directorship roles in established research centres within Ireland. Marie Skodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Networks 

The first ITN Call of 2016 (ITN 2016) will open to applications on 15th October 2015. The closing date is 12th January 2016 (tbc).  Full details here

Japan Foundation Programmes 2016-17


The Japan Foundation was founded in 1972, it is an independent body under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.  The Foundation operates a number of programmes, often in partnership with other organisations, focusing mainly on three areas: Arts and Cultural Exchange, Japanese - Language Education Overseas, and Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange.  The application deadline for most programmes is Tuesday, 1 December 2015.  However, application destinations and deadlines vary among programmes, you are advised to read the relevant information on pages 2 to 5 of the Programme Guidelines - this booklet can be downloaded as a .pdf from the link below.  Full details here

Irish Georgian Society Desmond Guinness scholarship


The Irish Georgian Society invites applications for the Desmond Guinness scholarship. This supports research on the visual arts in Ireland, including the work of Irish architects, artists and craftsmen at home and abroad, in the period between 1600 and 1900. Preference is given to work based on original documentary research. The society wishes to primarily support those not yet established at an advanced professional level in research or publication of the visual arts. The total budget is €1,000. Fáilte Ireland Applied tourism research grants

Fáilte Ireland invites applications for its applied tourism research grants. These enable third-level institutions and regional authorities or industries to collaborate on applied tourism and hospitality research projects relevant to the needs of regional industry. Particular consideration is given to projects that fall within the following strategic themes: *experiential development such as Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland's Ancient East and Dublin; *switch to digital; *how to facilitate international sales. Applicants must be full-time members of academic staff at a third-level institution or in receipt of public funding. Applications may be submitted in English or Irish. James M. Flaherty Scholarship Program

The James M. Flaherty Visiting Professorship supports established researchers and academics in Canada and Ireland who, on sabbatical leave from their academic appointments, wish to spend a period of between four and eight weeks as a visiting professor in a university department where they will collaborate in both research and teaching.  Full details here

Creative Connections: Workshops to cultivate Interdisciplinary Research in Ireland - Call for Proposals

The IRC is inviting research-performing organisations (consortia) to develop innovative proposals for the design, organisation and delivery of workshops in 2016 in interdisciplinary research (IDR). The purpose of the Call is to support the embedding of interdisciplinary thinking in the Irish research system – at all levels – and stimulate opportunities for researchers to come together to progress ideas for IDR. Bring a U.S. Fulbright Specialist to your Institution

 

The Fulbright Commission of Ireland is seeking applications from Irish institutions until 13th November 2015 to bring a U.S. Fulbright Specialist to their institution for two to six weeks from March 2016.  It is a creative and cost-effective way of accessing U.S. academics and professionals who might not be free to come for longer periods. The program enables Irish colleges, research centers, and educational and cultural institutions to invite U.S. academics or professionals to assist with any aspect of development, such as new courses, research program, or administrative structures, for example.Full details here

Arts Council Travel and training award


The Arts Council invites applications for its travel and training award. This award supports the professional development of artists and others working professionally in the arts in Ireland. There are two strands to this award: travel and training outbound, and travel and training inbound. The primary purpose of travel and training outbound is to support individuals who wish to participate in training and other professional development opportunities abroad.  The primary purpose of travel and training inbound is to support individuals and organisations who wish to invite specialists from abroad to deliver high-level training or mentoring for the purposes of professional development. Irish Fulbright Commission Irish student awards

The Irish Fulbright Commission invites applications for its Irish student awards. These enable postgraduate students to conduct research or study in the US for a period of four months per semester, up to one year. National Disability Authority Gold Medal Award for Disability Research


The National Disability Authority is instituting an annual Gold Medal for disability research related to policy, practice or the social inclusion of people with disabilities. In addition to the Gold medal, there will be a cash prize of €1,000. The award is aimed at early career researchers. Society for Musicology in Ireland - Grants

The Society For Musicology In Ireland invites applications for its grants. These support musicological research by postgraduate research students, non-affiliated scholars or academics without recourse to institutional funds. Financial assistance for presentations at conferences outside of Ireland may also be considered. Applicants must have been members of the society for a minimum of six months prior to applying. Environmental Protection Agency - Researcher travel support grants


The Environmental Protection Agency invites applications for its researcher travel support grants. These are open to researchers who have completed an EPA-funded project within the last twelve months, and who wish to present their findings, usually to an international audience. EPA sometimes funds travel of national experts in areas in which they wish to build capacity. Awards are worth up to €1,000 each and cover travel, registration and other associated costs. Inspire Consortium - Mobility Funding

Funding is available via the INSPIRE consortium to enable access to national equipment and infrastructure and for attendance at workshops and courses including those on the www.flexilearn.ie portal.  Applications are also welcome from those who wish to organise an event or research collaboration that facilitates mobility of postgraduate students. Students wishing to apply for funding should review these guidelines, complete the application form and submit this to inspire.access@gmail.com. Royal Irish Academy - R. J. Hunter Grants

Named in honour of the late R.J. (Bob) Hunter, this scheme aims to promote and encourage research into the history of the Ulster Plantation (c.1550s - 1750s) and other cognate areas, including patterns of migration from and to Britain and North America. Applications are now invited for grants up to €2500, from postgraduate, postdoctoral and independent scholars in both Ireland and the UK for the purposes of undertaking primary source research in line with the stated aims of the scheme. This post involves working on an EU research project on Solidarity in Europe. The focus of this post will be on studying solidarity actions in Ireland while contributing to the European debate on the meaning of solidarity. Submission Deadline: 14 August.
Post - Doctoral Position 2 (1.5 year)
The primary purpose of this post is to contribute intellectually to the theoretical foundations of equality studies and social justice with a particular emphasis on care. The person appointed will provide theoretical guidance on theories of care and social justice for research projects relating to palliative care, love, solidarity and equality studies. This post involves managing funded research projects relating to issues of equality and social justice, including the issues of care, solidarity and justice. For some unforeseen technical difficulty the webinar was not able to be broadcast at the scheduled time of 2.30pm today. The IRC sincerely apologize for this. They are trying to find out from their supplier why the presentation itself would not broadcast, while the audio transmission was available. They performed a trial run yesterday and the test worked but it seems, that Murphy’s Law kicked in today. Presentation will be circulated shortly for you to pass on to those who registered to attend. DSA Ireland’s Child Health Study Group is looking for members. This is the latest Study Group to be launched out of the DSA Ireland Network. The Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme 2015 (Postgraduate Scholarship and Postdoctoral Fellowship) has now launched. ASTI Centenary Scholarship

The ASTI offers an annual scholarship to assist ASTI members in undertaking further third-level studies. The annual scholarship of €4,000 is awarded to one ASTI member, with preference given to members who do not hold any other scholarships or financial awards for study. Full details here

IDEA: Invitation to Tender

Paul Partnership: Traveller Health Programme Evaluation

In 2010 the HSE Traveller Health Unit, working with PAUL Partnership, City of Limerick VEC and Limerick Social Services Council, proposed running the Traveller Health Programme for members of the Traveller community. The aim of this programme was to train participants in peer led service provision. On completion of the programme, participants will be employed to provide health information and support in their own community.
