Module 5: Financial Management for Development Practitioners

Effective financial management is an essential prerequisite in the successful delivery and completion of any development project. The capacity of development practitioners to plan and operate financial management systems aligned to the requirements and standards demanded by donors is a hugely important skill.

This module will provide participants with the capacity to design and activate appropriate financial management systems for managing finance and projects. Additionally, students will develop financial management expertise by learning how to design management systems that are aligned with the financial reporting and control obligations of national governments and international financial institutions. On completion of this module course participants should be able to produce financial reports, design financial plans and budgets, ensure that the financial management of procurement conforms to international best practice, as well as enhancing their awareness of common financial management problems and solutions in development projects.
