The main book collection is shelved on the Ground Floor and First Floor of the library. It is shelved by Dewey Decimal Classification.

The Library Catalogue will give you the location of the items held in the library. Older books not on high demand are held in stores. This will be indicated in the catalogue by "Dock Road" or " Chapel Store". You will need to complete a "Request" form at the Issue Desk for books in stores.


The library subscribes to a comprehensive range of journals in print format. These journals are bound and shelved on the Ground Floor in alphabetical order by journal title or they are held in stores. Check the Library Catalogue for the the location.

Locating print journals


The Irish Independent, The Irish Times and The Examiner are available daily in the library and the Limerick Leader is available on Friday. Back issues of each are stored for 3 months.

Primary School Textbooks

Textbooks for primary school classes are located on the Ground Floor and are arranged by subject. Copies of heavily used textbooks are also available in the Short Loans Collection. 

Reference Collection

The Reference Collection is located on the Ground Floor. It contains encyclopaedias, directories, dictionaries, indexes and abstracts to journals. Material is available for use in the library only. 

Children's Book Collection

The Children’s Library is located on the First Floor. It is designed as the ideal school library and is of particular use to students preparing for Teaching Practice.

Thesis Collection

The Library holds Master and Doctoral theses completed by students as part of their post graduate studies.  These are shelved on the First Floor. A list of theses may be obtained at the Issue Desk on the First Floor.



The library provides access to a large variety of electonic resources. Registered students and staff can access these resources on campus or at home through the library website.

Online Journals A-Z

The library has access to over 30,000 full-text online journals.

Online Databases

The library has access to nearly 200 online databases, many with full text.


Nearly 1,000 titles are available to be read through the Library Catalogue. Some are not listed in the catalogue but available through individual providers.


MIRR is MIC's Open Access Research Repository, providing access to research publications and theses from researchers in Mary Immaculate College.



Drury Archive



The Audio-Visual Library is located on the First Floor.

It contains:

  • Pictures and posters
  • Microfilm/fiche - The Irish Folklore Collection and Irish Historical Newspapers
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • Topic kits
  • Religious, historical and other artefacts
  • Other material useful for education students during teaching practice.
