Borrowing

In order to borrow from the library you will need a valid college ID card.

  • Students taking Education as a subject can also borrow 10 Primary School Textbooks from the Limerick Campus for 1 day. Other students can borrow 5 Primary School Textbooks for 1 day.
  • All students can borrow in both MIC Limerick and MIC Thurles
  • Periodicals, Theses and Reference books (blue dots on spine) cannot be borrowed.
  • There is also a reciprocal borrowing arrangement with UL library

Staff borrowing

Staff can borrow 30 items from the Limerick library and 30 items from the Thurles library for a period of 15 weeks

  • In addition 2 Four Hour Loan items can be borrowed and 1 One Day Loan

Returns

Where possible return your books at the self-service machines or at the Issue Desks.

At the Limerick campus there is a Books Return box outside the door of the library and another in the Foundation Building (under the stairs near the entrance to the Canteen) 

Renewing

General Lending items and 1 Week items may be renewed if it is not requested by another user. Other items may not be renewed. You may renew items in the following ways;

  • Online renewal from 'My Account'
  • Phone  061-204370 (Limerick Campus) or 0504 -20531 (Thurles Campus)


If you are not allowed to renew it will be for one or more of the following reasons:

  • Fines have accumulated on your Library card
  • The item has been requested by another user
  • The loan has already been renewed
  • The item is for 1 Day or 4 Hour loan

Reserving Items

By reserving a book you ensure that the book will be held for you upon its return.

How to place a reservation

Search for the book on the Library Catalogue. On the catalogue record click on "Check Availability". If it is possible to reserve the item you will see "Reserve this item" highlighted.

A notification will be sent to your College email address when the item becomes available. Items will be held for three day from date of email and then returned to open circulation. It is your responsibility to check your email regularly. You can also check the status of your reservations online. Go to Library Catalogue and click on "My Account" at top right-hand side of screen.  You will need your ID number and PIN to access it.

Fines

Make sure you know when to return your loans as there are fines if you don't bring them back on time. You can check the due dates online by going to the Library Catalogue and click on "My Account" at top right-hand side of screen.

Using ‘My Account’

Students and staff with borrowing rights can check their library account online. This allows them to see when items are due to be returned, renew items, view any outstanding fines and view their borrowing history. Go to the Library Catalogue and click the tab “My Account” at the top right-hand side of screen.

 

Contacting you

The library sends its messages (overdues and notifications that reserved items are available) to you using your College email address
