2017 RDS Primary Science Fair @ Mary Immaculate College
Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 January 2017

This week will see 6,000 primary school students and visitors descend on Mary Immaculate College (MIC) as the 2017 RDS Primary Fair Limerick @MIC kicks off from Thursday 19 – Saturday 21 January.

Last year’s inaugural RDS Primary Science Fair Limerick at MIC was such a success, being over-subscribed by 80%, that capacity has been doubled with an additional day added for this year's Fair.

The three day event in Limerick will see classes from 120 primary schools from Munster and beyond display their STEM projects and discuss their resulting findings with the public. The exhibitions feature various topics such as why don't we fall out when the roller coaster loops the loop?, asked by Ballyadam National School from Co. Laois while Scoil Cholmcille CBS, Cork, ask if robots will take over our schools.  On a similar theme  Holy Family BNS from Askea in Co. Carlow ask if robots can be built to show and communicate emotions while St Mary’s National School in Templemore examine the kind of music plants prefer. Herbertstown National School from Kimallock, Co. Limerick finally put an end to the age old question as to which tea bag is best - circular, square or pyramidal? While St. Canices National School from Kilkenny examine if children need instant gratification. Full list of exhibitions available to view here.

Along with the exhibition of the schools' STEM projects the programme of events also includes a wide range of shows, workshops and interactive stands repeated right throughout the day. Highlights include ‘Big and Bold, Hot and Cold’, ‘Biodiversity in the Garden’ ‘Fantastic Physics’, ‘Junior Einstein’s Science’ shows plus a wide variety of workshops including ‘Exploring Materials’, ‘My Favorite Whale’, ‘Playground Science’, ‘What Happens Next?’, ‘The Design & Make Shop’ and ‘Drumming’.
