What our BA ECCE Students Say

Marte Trana (Norway)

I study to become a preschool teacher, and went to Ireland to gain practical experience as an Erasmus student on the BA ECCE programme at Mary Immaculate College. I took classes in management and the role of play in development, and I also got to gain practical experience in a kindergarten during my stay in Limerick. I had a lovely time at MIC while I was there. The College has so much to offer the students, and I recommend everyone to take part in everything if it's possible. The teachers I had while I studied at MIC were exceptional in every way, so they were a big part of making my stay worthwhile. Thank you! Moreover, Ireland has much to offer a tourist. When you're staying in Limerick, you have the opportunity to visit a lot of other cities by taking a short bus-ride. I went to Cork and Dublin, which I recommend highly for everyone else to visit as well. I also got see the Cliffs of Moher, which is a memory I'll never forget!

Isabel Vega Mondéjar (Spain)

When I arrived at Mary Immaculate College, I knew that I had made the right choice deciding to study the last semester of my degree here. Since the first moment I felt like I was part of a big family. Lecturers and students were so close to me and made me feel so comfortable, helping me with everything they could. I also had the opportunity of doing my placement in a local school, which helped me to apply everything that I had learned at Mary Immaculate College in a way that I would never have imagined. These experiences that I had in Ireland only make me want to come back.

Hanne Mari Halvorsen (Norway)

The degree I chose to undertake was a BA in Early Childhood Care and Education. Once I finished Upper Secondary School in Norway I wanted to travel and learn English properly in order to able to speak it with confidence and accuracy. On researching childcare courses in Ireland I decided that the BA in Early Childhood Care and Education at MIC was the course and the college for me. My biggest Concern in deciding to study abroad was leaving my family and friends behind me. Leaving everything you know and love for a strange place where you know no-one can be scary, but it was a challenge I wanted to undertake. Initially I missed my family and friends but I soon created a life in Ireland and made close friends who made me feel very welcome, safe and valued. The close connection the students have with their lecturers in MIC is quite unique and demonstrates the benefits of a small college. Leaving Ireland, on completion of my course, was very hard but I take with me cherished memories and experiences and the knowledge that I have made life-long friendships. I hope to return to Ireland in a few years and open my own childcare setting.
