WELCOME TO NEW STUDENTS
You have already accomplished a great deal in being offered a place at MIC and we hope that you are pleased with your choice. MIC has a reputation for excellence in teaching, learning and research and is known for the relaxed and friendly atmosphere at its welcoming campus. You have much to look forward to as you meet your potential and make your own individual difference to the campus community. |
Essential Steps for Incoming Students
As an incoming student you can be assured of every support as you settle into life at MIC. However, making yourself aware of the essential steps outlined below will help to ensure that the first few days of your campus experience run as smoothly and enjoyably as possible.
Step 1: Orientation
Orientation for new MIC students takes place on 31 August and 1 September. Participation in Orientation is obligatory. During Orientation you will receive information from a wide group of people including academic staff and other student support staff which will help familiarise you with your chosen academic programme and the range of additional supports available to you. Orientation is a carefully timetabled event and there will be plenty of help on hand from current students to direct you to the venues you will need to attend. Tours of the campus will also be provided.

Step 2: Enrolment
You must complete the enrolment process and the registration process in order to be included on the register of MIC students and to ensure that you are included in the class lists for your programme. All forms you are required to complete in advance will be sent to you by the MIC Admissions Office before your arrival at MIC for Orientation. Please follow the instructions and complete the forms fully. On presentation of the completed forms at the enrolment session during Orientation you will be enrolled and issued with your Student ID Card. View the Orientation Schedule (above) for details about the time and venue for enrolment.
Step 3: Select & Register Your Course Subjects
Once you have been enrolled during Orientation, you will select the subjects you are taking from within your programme of choice. Some of these are required and others are for you to choose. You will need to register your subjects online (click here to access the online subject registration portal). More information about this process is included in the Student Handbook. Remember that during Orientation you will have the opportunity to meet with College lecturers to learn about the subjects within your programme. More information about modules is available in the MIC Annual Guide 2011-12, as well as on the Faculty and Departmental web pages.
