Departmental Information

 

The History Department in Mary Immaculate College caters for nearly 500 students in the two undergraduate degree courses in Education and Arts, in Erasmus and International Exchange programmes and in postgraduate studies.

In first year there is an equal ratio of B.A. and B. Ed. students while the arts group forms the majority of the undergraduates in subsequent years. The Department also services the Foundation Studies course in first year and provides Elective options for Arts students in the second and final years of their programme.

Erasmus students come from all EU countries with a strong representation from Scandinavia. The international students are predominantly American and hail mainly from Loyola University, Chicago, Frostburg State University, Maryland, Regis University, Denver, Hollins College, Virginia and the University of St. Thomas in Houston.


The Department offers a two year Masters Programme in Local Studies jointly with the Deptartment of History in the University of Limerick, with a current enrolment of 20 while there are twenty full time postgraduate research students in the Department.
