Welcome!

Welcome to the Department of English in Mary Immaculate College.  As you will see, we are research-driven with a number of publications to our credit.  We provide courses on the Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts undergraduate Degrees, with an undergraduate population of over 500 students.  We also offer a One-Year Taught MA course as well as research degrees at the levels of MA and PhD.  We currently have 5 students on the Research MA programme and 8 PhD students, many of whom appear in our post-graduate news and events page.  Our website will give you a very good idea of who we are and what we do.  If you have any questions, queries, suggestions or funds to donate, please feel free to email us at eugene.obrien@mic.ul.ie. The newsletter is designed to give you a flavour of the busy life within the department and to highlight forthcoming events.

All the best,

April 28, 2005 - Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney

On Thursday, April 28, Seamus Heaney gave a poetry reading in LG9. The theatre was packed and gave Seamus a rousing reception. He began with 'Digging' and kept the large audience spellbound for nearly 90 minutes. He answered questions afterwards and generously stayed behind to sign books.
