WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY, INCLUSIVE AND SPECIAL EDUCATION
The Department of Special Education was formed as a department in September 2007 as a result of restructuring within the new Faculty of Education. Prior to that time, it was a directorate in the college.
The department’s current primary responsibilities are to teach the Graduate Diploma in Special Educational Needs, which is funded by the Department of Education and Skills.
Graduates of the diploma course who progress into the Master’s Degree in Special Education are supervised by the faculty in the department.
There is a long tradition of collegiality and collaboration between the department and the initial teacher education programmes in the college.
The department is committed to the provision of current evidence-based practices in special education in all its programmes. The faculty are actively engaged in research activities as well as outreach community-based professional development provision.
