  Graduate Diploma / Masters in Early Childhood Education

 



The Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education is an intensive one-year, part time programme which is deisned to respond to the need of the affirmative, in-career development opportunities for teachers of infant children

Offered by the Education Department in Mary Immaculate College, the programme will serve as a development and progression of the study of the pre-service, Bachelor of Education foundation modules in Early Childhood Education.

Practising primary teachers with current responsibility for infant children are eligible to apply.




                 




Programme Content
THe programme consists of nine integrated modules which include two practica/action research components. This ensures an inclusive study of key issues in contemporary theory and practice in infant education, together with a uniques opportunity for reflective, in-career, professional deliberation and review.

Spring Semester
 
EN5712 Child profiling and assessment in Early Childhood Education: Towards the delineation of evaluation strategies appropriate to children's psychological, emotional and intellectual stages of development
 
EN5722 Towards a taxonomy of the roles and responsibilities of the teacher of Early Childhood Education
 
EN5732 Irish pre-school provision: National and international perspectives
 
EN5742 Practicum 2/action research

Lecture Times: In order to facilitate practising teachers, the programme is being offered on a part-time basis. Participants are required to attend lectures on 13 saturdays in each semester.

Entry to the Masters programme will be based on achieving the required minimum QCA of 3.0 in the Graduate Diploma.



Entry Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in education or an equivalent qualification together with three years approved teaching experience and responsibility for an infant class(es) in the year the course is being pursued.
