Graduate Diploma / Masters in Adult Education
The Graduate Diploma/M.Ed in Adult Education is a part-time programme for graduates who wish to work in the adult and community education sectors and for education/training personnel currently working in this field. The programme was introduced in response to Government proposals for the development of recognised professional qualifications for the teaching and practice of adult education.
The Graduate Diploma Programme is presented through a combination of weekend and block release study. Teaching and learning methods include lectures, workshops, studio-based teaching, visits to community development and adult education centres, teaching practicum, visiting speakers and directed study.
Aims of the programme
- to provide an academic, professional qualification for adult educators
- to develop a critical perspective of concepts that are of central importance in adult and community education
- to provide opportunity for the practice of education and the development of teaching skills
- to provide students with the theoretical foundation relevant to the adult learner and his/her learning environment
- to provide students with a range of communication and management skills that will enable them to work effectively with statutory bodies, regional agencies and community development groups in the adult and community education sector.
