UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

MI005/MI006 - Education - Primary Teaching

The BEd degree programme is a full time four-year programme which reflects the College's well-established reputation for excellence in teacher education. The programme prepares students to teach in primary schools. The programme comprises of on-campus study and school placement. The programme affords students the opportunity to specialise in specific areas in Education or the Liberal Arts. This programme is accredited by the Teaching Council.

MI007 - Early Childhood Care and Education

This B.A. degree programme in Early Childhood Care and Education is a full-time four-year degree course designed to provide an exciting and challenging programme for those interested in working with young children in a range of educational settings.

MI008 - Primary Teaching in Education and Psychology

This is a four-year undergraduate honours degree in Primary Teaching and Psychology (B.Ed). This programme is a unique venture in Ireland which can lead to a career in either primary teaching or in the field of psychology. The programme would be particularly suitable for, though not confined to, students who might wish to undertake a postgraduate specialisation subsequently in the field of Educational Psychology.

MI009 - BA in Education, Business Studues and Accounting

This is a four-year, full-time undergraduate concurrent teacher education degree, currently offered at MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus Thurles. Graduates are qualified to teach Business Studies and Accounting to honours Leaving Certificate level. In addition, graduates are trained in the most current methodologies and technologies available to enhance the teaching of their subject areas at post-primary level. The degree programme includes four years of modules in Business Studies and Accounting. These are taken concurrently with education modules which include theoretical and professional studies along with a succession of practical teaching experiences. The programme has been developed in response to the growing need for excellence in teaching at post-primary level. This programme is accredited by the Teaching Council.

MI010 - BA in Education, Business Studies and Religious Studies

This is a four-year, full-time undergraduate concurrent teacher education degree, currently offered at MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus Thurles. Graduates are qualified to teach Business Studies and Religious Studies to honours Leaving Certificate level. In addition, graduates are trained in the most current methodologies and technologies available to enhance the teaching of their subject areas at post-primary level. The degree programme includes four years of modules in Business Studies and Religious Studies. These are taken concurrently with education modules which include theoretical and professional studies along with a succession of practical teaching experiences. MI011 - BA in Education, Irish and Religious Studies

This is a four-year, full-time undergraduate concurrent teacher education degree. The programme is taught throughout at the MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus Thurles, is accredited by the Teaching Council and graduates are qualified to teach Irish and Religious Studies to honours Leaving Certificate level. In addition, graduates are trained in the most current methodologies and technologies available to enhance the teaching of their subject areas at post-primary level. The degree programme includes four years of modules in Irish and Religious Studies. These are taken concurrently with education modules which include theoretical and professional studies along with a succession of practical teaching experiences. The Teaching Council requires Irish language teachers to have spent a minimum of three months on residential placement in a designated Gaeltacht area prior to registering with it. Two weeks of this residential placement will be in the form of a compulsory Cúrsa Gaeltachta, organised by the College.

MI012 - BA in Education, Irish and Business Studies

This is a four-year, full-time undergraduate concurrent teacher education degree. The programme commences in September and is taught throughout at the MIC, St. Patrick’s Campus Thurles. Graduates are qualified to teach Irish and Business Studies to honours Leaving Certificate level. In addition, graduates are trained in the most current methodologies and technologies available to enhance the teaching of their subject areas at post-primary level. The degree programme includes four years of modules in Irish and Business Studies. These are taken concurrently with education modules which include theoretical and professional studies along with a succession of practical teaching experiences.
