Membership of the Eighteenth-Century Ireland Society / Cumann Éire san Ochtú Céad Déag is open to all. Founded in 1986, the Society aims to support the study of all aspects of life in Ireland in the period 1690-1800, and has become the main national forum for debate on eighteenth-century issues.

ECIS is a constituent society of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ISECS), and its main activities are the publication of an annual journal, Eighteenth-Century Ireland / Iris an chultúr, and an Annual Conference, which has been variously held in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Longford since the Society’s inauguration. In 1999, ECIS had the honour of hosting the Tenth International Congress on the Enlightenment at University College, Dublin, under the organisation of Professor Andrew Carpenter.

The Society currently has approximately 200 individual members, largely attached to Universities in the Republic and in N. Ireland, although we also have a significant overseas membership, particularly in the U.K. and U.S. Eighteenth-Century Ireland / Iris an chultúr is received by over 50 libraries, booksellers, museums, archives, universities and other educational institutions throughout the world.
