Welcome to the Department of Media and Communication Studies
We teach an undergraduate programme that is roughly 40% practical and 60% theory driven, and covers a wide range of contemporary topics. This enables students to develop a broad skill set, and a deep understanding of how the media work in society today. Such a grounding contributes to high graduate employability in diverse media and creative fields.
We are a small deparment and we believe that this helps us to provide a friendly, high quality learning environment for our students. If you scroll through the rest of this site, you will get all of the information you need about the courses we teach, the people who teach them and about the research we do here in Limerick.
But first, you should visit our Facebook page to get an insight into what are students are up to right now and to see the careers our graduates have pursued.
We've been pleased to see so many of our graduates getting in touch with us again through social media. We feel this is a measure of the good relationships they established when they studied here. Our Facebook page shows examples of students' work from the past, many of whom went on to win national awards and international aclaim.
This video gives an idea of the type of work you can expect to do if you register as a Liberal Arts student in Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick and take Media and Communication Studies as one of your subjects.
The music is by one of our graduates, Stephen Ryan and his band Windings.
