Dr Loïc Pierre GUYON (page last updated on 25 October 2017)

Loïc Guyon was born in Romans (France). He took his Licence and his Maîtrise de Lettres Modernes at Université Stendhal-Grenoble 3. He then spent a few years at the University of Kent at Canterbury during which he obtained an M.A. in Comparative Literary Studies and a Ph.D. in French as well as a Doctorat ès Lettres from the Université de Paris 8. In 2002 he was awarded a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship thanks to which he spent one year in the Moore Institute (NUI, Galway) researching on Travel Literature. He taught French at University College Cork, the NUI Maynooth and University College Dublin before being appointed to a permanent position at the University of Ulster in 2006. He was appointed Head of the Department of French Studies at Mary Immaculate College in August 2009. Loïc Guyon was awarded the title of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes académiques in 2013 and of Chevalier de l'Ordre national du mérite in 2017.

His main research interests are in 19th century Travel Literature and issues of crime and justice in 18th and 19th century France.
